Not even as a vital restoration piece down the line for your very first Cuda?

    Don’t hold your breath Mix!

Cudarider is a veteran going back to the previous Cuda site, as are a few of us, but he hasn’t logged in since July 6th. I don’t guess he is thinking about this board much! So, if you’re interested in those decals, you better PM him through this site or ask him directly via Ebay.

    Too bad… :(

    Thanks vpc66!

I’m really glad it all worked out in the end! For now, maybe because I expected the sale to fall through, I’ve decided to stick with the rigid “XX” fork that came with the frame. What helped solidify my decision making process was the 80mm NOS “BARRACUDA” logo quill stem I bought for the build plus it also has a new Odyssey TORO needle bearing headset. The bike is just about ready to roll, if I swap the fork now I lose all the new parts I mentioned, and I have to spend more money on a new threadless headset plus a threadless stem. Pee-wee’s notion of “sisters” with matching Barracudas is going to have to wait for now. She can start out by cutting up the trail on a rigid steel mountain bike… just like her old man did in ’85 on a second hand 1981 Ritchey Everest (what I consider my first legit trail bike). In fact, I think I’m going to pop in and see my buddy at my LBS, buy some housing and cables, and finish up her bike tomorrow! :D

Thanks for helping to inspire me to finish up the build, I was sort of dragging my feet with regard to the White Brothers fork and all the parts I’d be wasting plus those I’d have to buy!!! Hopefully I’ll get some decent shots up too!

    * update *

The White Brothers XC-70 fork arrived today! :D

It looks like the seller may have used one of those shipping centers, I say this because the auction listed the fork would be shipped via UPS, but it was delivered by FedEx. I went ahead and left the seller positive feedback but I did give him unsatisfactory marks in the “communication” portion of the feedback form since he failed to contact (even after I sent 5 messages).

For what it’s worth, pee-wee is stoked about having a fork that is the same as the one on my A2L! According to her, the Barracudas with matching White Brother forks are “sisters” and she can’t wait until she is big enough to hit the trails!

Speaking of big enough… she has decided that since she has a mountain bike like mine, she also wants a track bike like mine too. So, being the bike slut that I am, I ran out and picked her up a used 2010 Globe Roll 01 frame for super cheap. Globe is a subdivision of Specialized, centering around urban bikes. It’s great because the frame is made from double butted Reynolds 520 CrMo tubing, it has adjustable track drop outs (the new models don’t), and runs standard 700c wheels. I swooped on this particular one because the frame is a small/45cm, which should be ideal for making the transition from her 26″ wheel Cuda to a 700c (29’er) single speed. The bonus for me, when she outgrows the frame, I’ll simply yank the parts and install them on her next larger track frame. She loves the frame but isn’t crazy about the gray color (I like it), she asked if we could paint it, so I’m planning on taking it my buddy that has a paint shop and have him paint the frame turquoise (pee-wee’s favorite color).

I’m trying to be optimistic… the outside delivery date was today, I’m hoping that it does arrive in the next day or two. I can’t file a claim or do anything through Ebay before the 5th, that stinks because the auction ended on the 22nd and I paid on the 23rd. So much for a good deal if it falls apart! The guy has 200+ transactions with 100% perfect positive record, not the type of seller that I expected would welch on the sale. The only saving grace is I can leave negative feedback unless Ebay takes that away from me!

Thanks for taking the time to offer your opinions, I can see both the pros and cons. However, the decision may have been made for me… *SUCKS* … the seller of the White Brothers fork has taken the dough and nothing for 10 days! Not a single reply to my emails, no fork, just nothing! I guess the guy wasn’t cool with the $32.00 auction closing price! Man up, you know, don’t be a be’yotch! The least he could do is return the money to Paypal… nope… now I have to go after this fool on top of being screwed out of my fair’n’square winnings!

The up side, I did score a SDG “Slim Jim” titanium rail and Kevlar saddle for Pee-Wee’s Barracuda. The Ebay seller accepted my “Best Offer” of $20.00 (free shipping included), maybe that’s a lot for a used saddle but all my trail bikes have SDG seats. Plus, it’s period correct and matches so well… I know how the details matter to you ‘Cuda divas!!!

    Nice vpc66!

That’s a proper Barracuda set up right there… that looks super sick!!!

I dig it! I’ve got some Cuda envy goin’ on  ‘cuz I know I’m never going to find a sweet jersey like that in a XXL!

p.s. As I am a fashion diva, it’s time for a matching red helmet! That blue simply will not do… it’s like c’ankles on a woman… it’s just will not do!!!

I’m sure she has a nice warm personality too!

All shapes… all sizes… yeah, I’ve heard that hippie crap before. Hogwash!!! We’ve gotten to the point where we celebrate mediocrity! Our country is consumed with the idea that everyone is special for some reason. No they’re not, that’s stupid! Idiotic TV shows that validate peoples’ unhealthiness, tell them that they are wonderful, and then give ’em beauty makeovers! It’s absurd!!!

pee30wee was spot on to post this inspired thread, if willywill is correct, that means half of all Americans can’t enjoy the thrill that pee30wee wrote about. With 300 million people in this country, those numbers are troubling to the point of making me feel sick!

Just pondering the idea of pulling the rigid fork off my daughter’s bike and sticking on a suspension fork. This thought never really entered my head before because I did own a spare fork. However, last Saturday morning before my daughter’s soccer game, I won a White Brothers SC-70 Country fork on Ebay for $32.99 (plus $18.00 s/h). Just like the gearing, I planned on running her first trail bike as a 1×9 but she is more than smart enough to handle gears, that’s why I ran it with the XT 3×7. Going with that same way of thinking, I’m leaning towards installing that fork and just allowing her to jump in with both feet. I know convention says let her cut her teeth first then intro the upgrades but she is a smart cookie, so why not let jump on with a steep learning curve and save that awkwardness of having to learn the dynamics of suspension.

Just a thought… interested in hearing your opinions.

    Thanks!

Sweet bike willywill, it’s gotta be easy to get out and have some fun on that beauty!

My buddy ordered the SC Project PRAMAC edition Hypermotard, he absolutely loves that bike! I took it out a few times, that thing is the definition of torque, it’s work not to stand the front up off the line! Super styled out bike!!!

    B E A R T R A P S . . .

    THE SHIN SHREADERS ! ! !

Incredibly awesome pedals until the VANS come loose! I rode those up until recently, those pedals have scarred my shins so badly, my daughter says that they are ugly. Battle scars right?!!! The last spill I took here in the neighborhood, those traps took a huge chunk out of my shin but not before they cheese grater’d the front of my lower leg from knee to ankle!

Here’s my classic Beartrap BMX story, everyone who rode those pedals has a story. A kid crashed into me when we were approaching a doubler during a race, he wadded me up badly, and my left foot dropped to the track as the Beartrap came around. Instant stoppage and over the bars I go. I come to and I’m sitting in a pool of blood, blood gushing out of my head, I try and get up… that’s when the pain hits me!!! Turns out the Beartrap severed my Achilles tendon when it took a 4 inch piece of pie out of the back of my lower leg, and when I pinwheeled, the Beartraps lacerated my head. By the time I’d made it to the E.R., I lost so much blood that they couldn’t put me under, so I received 12 “locals” to ease the pain as they did surgery on my leg while I was fully awake and dying!!! 128 stitches later and I was in a 3/4 leg cast for 2 months, such an awesome way to start summer vacation! Good times!!!
