First, I’ll take a look through my bin of socket head bolts and see if I can find any 7mm bolts. No promises…This is a common issue on various forums, here is a thread that I came across when my buddy needed the same thing:

I called my top 3 places that I’ve always been able to find what I was after… came up with nothing! This shocked the hell outta me! One guy said to call Japanese motorcycle dealers, he claimed M7 bolts were common in motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. You might find one up near before resorting to Ebay. Anyway, this is the best that I could find, the bolt is shipping out of Toronto Canada, otherwise everything else is shipping out of Hong Kong. And it seems that titanium is the only option in 7mm socket “allen” heads. There is a link provided in the MTBR.com link above at the bottom of the thread, I did some checking, and everything I could find had a $25.00 or $50.00 minimum order. I’d go out of Toronto, just for the shipping time, I wouldn’t care that the single Ti bolt cost twice as much.

Derek… hang in there buddy… you will complete this build soon! While you’re waiting for your M7 bolt to arrive in the mail, get some 2×4’s and build that $7.00 stand I posted in the OFF TOPIC CHAT section.

Granted TREK sucks but why blame Bontrager… Keith doesn’t control the weather… or does he?!!!I was lucky enough to have owned a ’92 Bontrager, pre-TREK, that Keith made himself. I bought it off one of his team racers. The guy had rad stories of driving all over the western United States with Keith in a beat up old station wagon. Selling that bike is one of my great regrets in life… I may have a few, but that one ranks way up there!

Sorry man, I should have looked back at the original pictures. All of the rigid fork Barracudas that I have ever seen have had threaded headsets and use quill stems. Vinny is right, my daughter’s A2Z is running a new threaded headset and a new old stock ‘Cuda quill stem. The Chris King Gripnut threaded headset on my track bike is the nicest headset I’ve ever owned or felt… yeah, it was a wallet buster at $130.00 but I had to have a threaded headset because my box-crown fork was threaded. Aw man, that sucks!Going from threaded forks to threadless, you always have to allow for the stack height of your threadless headset plus another 2″ or so for the threadless clamp. What a bust! I just looked back at your head tube size, I think this fork with work for your frame size. You can always bring your frame and a threadless stem with you when you check it out.

There are no threadless headsets for sale near you, if you need one, I can always track one down and send it your way. I feel your pain, you just want the bike done so you can hit it!!! That’s the story of my life for the last year! Let me know what you decide and if you need anything.

You’re probably right, someone at that massive company will catch it… however, for me and numerous people I know… that’s the best logo to date!
I ran a cool coffeehouse for years, long before there was a Starbucks in town. There is such a difference between a place that prides itself on tasty brew, good atmosphere, and quality local art & music versus the corporate mess on every other corner! Gag…

A serious place for those that love bikes and coffee (plus a love of PBR doesn’t hurt). Bikes and coffee just go well together! I wish I had something like the Angry Catfish near me!!! My buddy moved back there, he frequents the place, and he always has something positive to say about the people that hang there. He claims the low down is “DON’T F*CK WITH THE FISH UNLESS YOU ARE CARRYING A SUITCASE OF PBR!” Also, a crit race around the local lake has been known to come together in no time but each rider must down a PBR upon completing a lap. Yep, a few soggy racers later but no big deal, the shop will pull your bottom bracket for free if you were racing in the crit.
The first pic, I simply love it, those are my kinda’ people that’ll ride out into the elements for some brew or to down a few brews… nice!
The second pic I dig because i would love to get a community of local riders together that they do and as often as they do!

Yeah, my bike stable has been accused of being out of hand by a few people, I guess I can’t be held to this or that. I’m simply a fan of bicycles, I love everything about them, I know that goes back to my first bike. That feeling generated from throwing a leg over for a first ride is the best. I’ve had friends who’ve been into drugs in bad ways, they’ve spent their lives chasing the feeling of their first “high” and never getting it! I was never a drug person, possibly bikes and the high they brought kept me straight.
Man, I’d be all over that one if I were you, that would be great to be rollin’ around on your “family” ride!

Thanks vpc66! Yep, Tektro saved the day with a roller cam/pitbull brake mount adapter. Charlie Cunningham, founder of WTB, designed a similar plate to mount the roller cam brakes he developed. The only difference, the WTB plate is vintage aircraft grade aluminum and fetches hundreds on Ebay, and the Tektro cost $10. The black finish is called Wet Black, it is powder coat but I had to sandblast the frame and fork first. It’s the closest to paint that I’ve ever seen powder look, I really like how it turned out!- October 13, 2012 at 8:51 am

My Manitou 2 forks were bottomed out and wasted, so I gutted them and installed the Wing’s “hard/hard” spring kit (the same that Mixalive spoke about), basically making mine into some sweet rigid BMX forks. The Manitou forks are the same as the Answer BMX fork but with rigid fork tubes. I made my own and saved a couple hundred dollars on a set of Answer BMX forks… sweet! Cudarider replied to my message on Ebay, here is what he had to say:Hey Don, Great to hear from you. Don’t worry about giving me crap, I probably deserve it, LOL. I got a promomotion at work a few months back which is a good thing in some respects and a bad thig in others. The departments that I took over are messed up and I’ve been working tons of hours to begin to straighten them out so I haven’t had the time to do much on my computer except check emails and pay bills. I do miss the board. Last week the transmission in my truck went to the tune of $5000 and I’m already backed up on the bills so as much as I didn’t want to get rid of the set I kind of had to do it, My A2M cracked and is now wall art anyway and the A2E that I’ve been building form a year is green so I wouldn’t use these decals. I kind of assumed that someone on the board would end up grabbing these. With the price I’m asking I didn’t have the guts to put in on the board but with the hit that I took from the tranny, I need every penny I can get. I have a few other random decals that I’m going to post too plus a whole bunch of other stuff that I have laying around to try and get some cash. Anyway, great to hear from you, I’ll have to drop in soon to catch up.

Naw, my buddy at my LBS is swamped, he is leaving at the end of the month, so everyone is trying to sneak their projects in before he splits. I may have some posted tonight, I’m supposed to pick the bike up this afternoon. We’ll see… thanks for the interest!

First things first… welcome to the the Cuda family!
Damn nice score for $75.00!!! You landed a 1994 gem, the A2V was a higher end Barracuda made from Tange Prestige tubing (same as a Stumpjumper), and you got it for a fraction of the original $1,399.00 price… I wish I could find a Cuda like that!!!
Naw, no stupid questions… you loosened one allen head bolt but did you loosen the other two on the back of the stem? If so, and all three are loose, it would seem that your stem has been in that position since new or at least for a very long time. Take the allen head bolt and the plastic Aheadset plug completely out, using a rubber mallet (or a steel hammer and a piece of wood, no metal on metal), hit the top of the stem and steer tube gently a few times to break the corrosion loose. This should do the trick. However, you don’t have much steer tube to play with so you’re only going to get about 1/2 an inch or so of added height. Sorry to ruin your plans… you could always get a stem with more rise or a riser handlebar.
