Right on Derek, very cool of you to recall each man’s service… thanks to each of them and may their service never be forgotten or taken for granted!Both sides of my family are military, so the list is very long but I will share what I think is something cool. After my uncle retired out of the army he went to work for the CIA and State Dept, it was very hush hush stuff. Often he’d give us the ol, “I can’t tell you where I’m going and I won’t tell you what I’m doing or when I’ll be home… so don’t ask!” He’d be gone for days or weeks and then almost out of the blue he was home. He’d have some cool thing from his travels for us to have or share. When we got older, we were more savvy to what was up, we’d hear in the news about a Soviet satellite station blowing up or whatever and then he would turn up the next day with a Soviet officer’s pocket watch. Cool stuff for the boys of the family to get our heads all twisted up over! He is now the family tree guy, he has given copies to all of us sharing personal or family wills going back to the Mayflower Compact, duty or service rosters of our family members that fought in every war going back to the Revolutionary War against the King of England, and all sorts of priceless family info. Many of my native american relatives’ names on those lists too, they fought for ancestry and their homeland, so many died trying to preserve what little they had left to call home. My family tree is twisted and complex!!! Must be why I’m the way I am! As a family we look back over those documents and see the names of a few hundred men that took up arms to fight for and defend my right to be free and have choice… words fall short… it’s always like getting boot kicked in the gut! PRIDE!!!

Man, are you 6’6″ or something taller? Your frame has to be an 18″ or 20″ and then that seatpost on top of that… crazy gigantic Cudahead!!! Seriously though, is your seatpost pulled up past the maximum line? I’ve never seen a post that long that was not beyond the line of safety. All joking aside, I don’t want to see you hospitalized, brother!!!
On a different note… great to see it done! It looks like it will be an awesome climber, especially if you’re truly that tall, your pedal leverage while climbing will be insane (think Ned “Deadly Nedly” Overend, also ran an 18″ or 20″ frame with a giant seatpost)! Glad I could help, happy to do so, and I’ll keep my eyes open for a good deal on a suspension fork (with an extra long steer tube).

I make it a point after installing a new chain to clean that heavy grease off the chain that comes from the factory. Being that KMC makes 90% of all chains in China, you have to know that mass produced garbage they put on a chain to prevent rust is no good. I clean that mess and then I install some Dumond chain lube, they have different lubes for road or dirt. Just doing this simple bit of maintenance has solved the exact problem you’ve described. A number of factory bike teams plus motorcycle race teams like Ducati and Aprilia trust Dumond for their factory riders. It’s not too bad, $10 or $11 dollars online or a few dollars more at your LBS or motorcycle dealer. Another thing to consider, ruling out your new chain, are worn teeth on your derailleur pulleys, chainrings, or cassette. A new crisp chain will jump around on rounded over or worn out drive teeth. The chain is the best place to start as it’s the most affordable replacement.

Yeah maybe it’s dedication, I don’t know. The guy used to struggle with chemicals, he enjoyed the highs a bit too much and they grabbed hold of him for some time. Now he is straight and seems to have endless energy for projects. Eighteen months ago after he kicked, I gave him one of my old race bikes, I figured he needed to clear that funk out of his mind and road miles are one way to do that! Last year he logged just over 11,000 miles! Crazy right?!!! One of his trips he rode from SoCal to Canada, all around Canada, back though all the western states this side of the Rockies, down to Ensenada Mexico, and back home. Plus all of his daily miles. He claims that once you’ve spent so much time half dead, you might as well get busy living! Good point…- October 30, 2012 at 4:30 am

Thanks for posting pee30wee!I agree with Mix, that is a 16″ frame, it looks just like mine and mine is a 16″ for sure. That also looks to be an early Marzocchi fork and it does not appear to be compressed, it may still be functioning! Given the lack of obvious use and overall nice condition, I’d say the seller robbed the Cuda of parts and likely scored it from the original owner who never rode it! Man, I wish nice deals on early Cudas like this popped up near me!!! The fork and the Sugino Impel cranks are worth the asking price, the Cuda is a bonus!

That was what my buddy experienced when he made his homemade stand. I asked him to send me pictures, his is really slick but he was having camera issues. He did forward the 3 pictures he found online, he built his almost exactly like the pics. Initially he used “V” cuts in 2″x4″‘ blocks, then he lined the “V” cuts with dense foam sheet (similar to the recycled innertubes in the 2nd photo), and after finalizing his clamp he then mounted it to the rafters in his garage. Later, he modified it so the pipe frame would sleeve onto a mounted piece of tubing that was mounted on the rafters… this way he could install and take down with a cotter pin and a machine bolt. Like I said, it’s a pretty sweet stand, the floating element is what I really dig.

Great point! That is exactly how I set up two spare stands when I had my workshop in an industrial unit before I brought the “shop” home to save on the $600.00 per month rent. Thanks for bringing that to mind, I’d forgotten about the roof mounted set up!

I like Vinny’s idea for securing the bike, simply resting the seatpost between the wooden arms would not work for me. That said, here is Jim Langley’s bike stand from BIKE Magazine:http://www.flickr.com/photos/dognamedbanjo/4241788406/in/photostream/
Obviously, it will cost a bit more, but not too much as the components are relatively inexpensive, and certainly $100.00 cheaper than a new Park stand.

Sorry Derek… no dice my man. I have a bunch of 6m and 8m but no 7m bolts.Check it out, if it were me and I was in your shoes, before I’d spend $10.00 tracking down a bolt for a used headset… I be all over this:
Those stainless steel races, just like a Chris King, will last forever! Bonus, that it’s close by in Colorado with free shipping. It’s just me but for the extra $2.00, I’d rather have the new WTB headset.
