    LOL

    This is great!

Actually, I have been preoccupied with other things lately (Photography, Fishing, etc) but I still come around from time to time to ensure the site is where I left it. ;)

Nice weather has hit the Toronto area, and I’ve begun rebuilding my Manitou 3’s. I also need to swap out my Ringle headset for my Chris King, but once that’s done, I’ll be out on the trails, and likely to be around here more, as the parts swapping season heats up.

    :)

The seller doesn’t know what they’ve got at all. Even said it was a late 90’s model for crying out loud. Yep, the accessories on this alone would fund the purchase, as nobody but us here realizes the value of the frame. If it were a 18″ I’d be dropping some cash on it.

To weigh in on the geometry point, when running with a standard-fit fork on my XXTeam, I could ride slowly, no hands. This is because the tire rode on the sweet spot, where it was meant to.

When I swapped to a longer fork, it pitched the headtube slightly, and the contact patch went back a bit. Now, when going no hands at slow speed, the bars have a tendency to turn left or right, and not stay centred.

Keeping technical terms out of it, the handling is affected. It’s whether or not you notice, that makes the most difference.

    LOL!!!

To me, message boards are like marriages. Sometimes things are bustling and good, and other times, you’ve got a lull in the excitement. But in both cases, stick it out, because the excitement and bustle will come around again.. ;)

I’m not on the board as much as I’d like, as my Photography (http://www.markbradfield.com) is kicking into high gear with some big articles in some nice magazines, but I still pop on from time to time to check on things.

At the end of the day, I’m glad the board has our close-knit group of veterans close-by, so that when things pick up or a new member shows up, there’s someone around to answer the call.

    Happy Holidays, everyone!

    Best,

The all-blue look on the Ringle is a nice touch. :)

Ok, I’m glad someone raised this topic, because I’ve thought about it since interviewing Tom for the site. Personally, I think it’d be a great idea to collect interest and opinions for having either of these re-created:

    a) Original Barracuda prototype (there were a few original models offerred, I’d go with the highest end frame)

    b) Full suspension A2FS frame

    Any thoughts?

    Best,

    Welcome Sam!

That frame isn’t yet part of a build, but will be. Have you seen the amazing repairs that some of our members have undertaken? Gave me some confidence in breathing new life into the former wall hanger.. ;)

    LOL!!!

Regarding the duotrack, scrap it and seek out a nice, period-correct replacement. Manitou, Rock Shox or Marzocchi are all great. Keep an eye on the travel, as you’ll raise the steerer tube too high and it won’t steer right.

Ok, you’ve GOT to send us some high-res pics of this bike. I for one, am restoring this very bike and I need some detail on what decals are on the production bike, etc..

    :)
