Hey Al-First things first… congrats on your 1st Barracuda!!! Soon you’ll have a few ‘Cudas in your stable, it just happens and one day you own 3 or 4 (right Mixalive?). Welcome to the site, glad you found your way, you and your Cuda have made it home!
vpc66 nailed it on the 2nd gen ‘Cuda, the derailleur hanger is a key frame difference. Another big frame difference is your ‘Cuda is aluminum, most of the 1st gen Barracudas were steel. Also, the Barracuda decal on the seat tube as well as the head tube (a 1st gen would have had TREES AMIGOS decal on the seat tube) also indicates a newer model. Those differences aside, you do still have an American made Barracuda! After the original owners sold Barracuda to Ross Bikes, Ross closed shop in Durango, CO and moved the production to Farmingdale, NY.
I say you ride the tread off the tires and keep your eyes peeled for an “early” Barracuda (’92-’96), pick yourself up a steel frame ‘Cuda. I’ve owned dozens of mountain bikes since the mid-80’s and my steel frame Barracuda A2L rides every bit as nicely as my ’92 Yeti or my ’86 Ritchey… steel is real (and not prone to stress cracks).
Enjoy the trails!!!

p.s You’re rollin’ on one of my favorite tires… I love Tioga baby brick nobbies!!!

Hey Mix,This topic came up a year ago, a Crossfire listed on Craigslist in Las Vegas for $75.00 (if my memory serves me), here is a link:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=93&p=335&hilit=crossfire#p335
According to the catalog, it was only made in 1993, a low end bike that cost under $500.00 when new. The seller is on crack if he seriously thinks he get that asking price!!!
Peace,

Sound advise amigo!!! I recall a few times as a junior, out at the BMX track, racing for the hole shot and diving into the first left-hander and grabbing that inside Bear Claw pedal… ***BONG***… instant high side when the rear wheel lets go and slammed into whoever happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time! A bell-ringer ever time!!! I love long crank arms but your bike sounds like it needs an adjustment in the cranks.

Here you go vpc66,It’s an aluminum 14″ frame…

baracuda small mountain bike – $135 (julian)
This is a liteweight alumunim barracuda mountain bike. the frame is 13.5 inches suitable for smaller riders or older kids. It has aftermarket upgrades to brakes/barends etc. (LX group stock)and is in great shape. Excellent maintenance. Strip it at this price.
If this is still posted, it is still available.
3five9/six8fourone
(sorry, no pictures)
I’d call on this one, if it has an aluminum frame and LX group stock, it’s at least a mid-level bike or higher… i.e. a $1,200.00+ bike… even the XX Team frame came with LX group. This might be a Comp!
Good luck!!!

p.s. I’ll post any others I find.

Brother VPC… you need to speak to Brother Mixalive… he is the gatekeeper of all things ‘Cuda in 14″… he won a sweet early 14″ Comp on Ebay some time back, but that was before he bumped his stable to 4 ‘Cudas. You may get lucky!
Good luck!

Hey Tod360,Welcome to the site! Always good to hear from an original owner, do yo still have any of your original paperwork that came with your ‘Cuda?
vpc66 is exactly right, these are great bikes that are worth a lot to all of us… however, a quick look through the MARKETPLACE section with yield a bunch of Barracudas under $200.00 and many under $100.00. If you love the ride of your A2V, keep riding it! You might as well keep your eyes peeled for another A2V (or similar model), just in case you need a replacement frame.
Enjoy the trails!

Welcome to the site! It’s always good to see enthusiasm about these great bikes! That dent… I had a small dent removed (same place and same size) from a frame that was made from Reynolds 853 tubing. My buddy owns a body shop and his cosmetic guy massaged the dent using paintless dent removal tools and techniques. I’m sure there is a shop near you in the Dallas area that does this same procedure. My buddy doesn’t do a “good guy” price, he’s a mean bastard like me, but I still only paid $20.00 to have the dent taken out from the inside. If you didn’t know there was a dent there prior, you’d never be able to tell. It was a great solution, no messing up the paint and no torching the frame.

As far as that Manitou Comp, I think the owner may have upgraded at the time of purchase. That Comp was only made one year, 1994, and cost a wallet busting $419.00 when purchased as an upgrade. Otherwise, the retail price was $499.00 for the fork by itself. I recently installed one on my 1991 Koga Miyata that I was rebuilding. I rebuilt the internals with Wings suspension springs, here is link:
http://wings-suspension.com/index.html
That’s is the second Manitou that I’ve rebuilt using those springs, they work well and are an inexpensive way to breathe new life into a tired fork. Mixalive also redid his Manitou with a Wings kit, he might want to weigh in on his experience.
Congrats on the purchase… good luck with getting it polished and trail ready… we love pictures so add some once done or snap off a couple on your maiden voyage. Welcome to the family!!!

True… it seems to go days between postings and replies. Possibly has to do with the holidays but I think it’s more to do with the fact that there are 139 members and most have no activity or input. Also, I’ve noticed a void of Barracudas on the net (Craigslist, Ebay, Yakaz, etc.) as of late, there too may have something to do with the holidays. I’ll keep listing anything that pops up, I continue to try to reply to new postings, and I hope the rest of you will do the same. I really like this site, it has a great forum and a better group of Cudaheads… plenty of newbies have made their first posting by praising this site for being here! That’s a great thing, thanks again as always Mark!!!- December 8, 2011 at 4:29 am

Oh, mister upbeat this year… well then Mr. Mix, I’m expecting something nice in my stocking… those two lumps of coal aren’t going to cut it this year Ebenezer!!! Logan’s frame is too tall for my riding taste but a pair of folding race tires would do nicely!- December 5, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Yep… not many ‘Cudas on Ebay as of late (besides the crackhead seller asking outrageous prices), that’s one reason why I suggested Ebay. Since the members on this forum are good about watching Ebay, I figured your Comp (as a frame) would be of interest to a few of the Cudaheads.Having sold quite a few things over the years on Ebay, if you’re not pressed for dough, I’d suggest waiting until after the holidays. I’ve learned the hard way that peoples’ loose money is pretty tight this time of year and you don’t get top dollar.
Again, good luck!

A low miles Comp is a find… I agree with you on the upgrades, but that price tag is going to be hard for anyone on here to choke down. Not that I’m a fan of doing this, you may want to part it out on Ebay. Just about anyone that frequents Ebay will want that drivetrain and your Sid for sure. The fans on this site keep up with Ebay when it comes to these ‘Cudas, you may find a few members willing to give you a fair price for that frame… maybe even a bidding war over your frame. Sorry, I hate to sound like a vulture but 500 clams is a lot compared to the prices we’re used to seeing on Craigslist that make it before our eyes in this Marketplace section.Too bad, I never like to see a ‘Cuda getting passed along… I’m always optimistic that a new owner will give it a loving home and some trail time.
Good luck with the sale!
