    Hey Ron,

Miyata bikes can be tricky as they did the same model in different markets but did them in different colors and under different names. Here is a link to my ’91 Koga-Miyata Trailrunner. The bolt on stays was introduced in 1990 for Miyata 100th anniversary, it was done with gold lugs and carbon fiber tubing. Elev12k aka Elevation 12k on the different forums is the authority on all things Koga and Miyata, he helped me pin down the fact that mine was a Japanese only market bike as it had Japanese characters on the warning sticker on the top tube but he had no Japanese catalogs to back it up.

    viewtopic.php?f=4&t=351&p=1477&hilit=miyata#p1477

I also had a Seven21 road bike with the same glued threaded tubing and lugs. The bolt on stays ran through the mid-90s but the cable routing changed placement. In ’92 they went to a box seat yoke, so I’m thinking yours is a ’90 or ’91. Yours is very similar to a ’91 Elevation 1000, I’ve attached a photo, the paint is different on the rear stays but they changed things mid-year from time to time.

Either way, that a good price on a great bike!

Right on, I hope the seller still has it and he or she is looking to get rid of it, maybe 60 bucks takes it… here’s hoping!

Here are the Schwinn catalog specs from the MOMBAT site:

    http://mombat.org/Schwinn_Specs.htm

According to that chart, the High Sierra came in black chrome in ’87 and ’88.

I’ll split it with you or maybe I’ll pay you whatever you get it for, I need a roller cam fork and some roller cam brakes for my Panasonic MC7500 frame project. No hard feelings if you decide to keep it and clean it up… it’s the right price and will make and awesome everything bike! I built up a single speed go anywhere bike using a ’86 Nashbar Terra XT. It’s basically a Stumpjumper Sport from the same year, built in the same factory by the same people with the exact specs, but the Terra XT used Ishiwata CrMo and got a gold flake “Sunset Orange” paint job. I usually ride it to the Farmers’ Market, my wife ride the High Sierra grocery getter I built for her, and pee-wee rides her A2Z Cuda. The monster basket on the High Sierra usually means I don’t have to carry anything back.

Good luck with the High Sierra, I think you be pleasantly surprised!

    Peace’fo’real,

    -D-

My ’88 HIgh Sierra in yellow paint has fillet brazing on the head tube, I’m not sure about the black chrome model but keep your fingers crossed… a black chrome fillet brazed frame would be incredible!

    Go vintage…

Hard to beat an American made black chrome Schwinn High Sierra with front and rear Suntour Rolller Cam brakes. Only $75 in Oakland, N. Jersey, that bike would be 3 bills easy around here as nice American made steel fetches a premium.

That one has been a little too personalized for my taste, at that point it’s a parts bike and those parts aren’t worth $100.00. The guy would never get his asking price around here.

Anodizing Inc. made Homegrowns go for $200 to $400 depending on condition and components. These were the end of the run for US made Homegrowns. The one you’re asking about is an Anodizing Inc. made Homegrown.

Control Tech made Homegrowns fetch $200 to $500 for the same reasons mentioned above. Legit Yeti made “Factory USA” 7005 Easton Elite bike with full XTR fetch a grand easily. The Control Tech bikes were made of 6061 aluminum and not the 7005 Easton Elite aluminum that Yeti used. Also, the Yeti bikes were full XTR, while the Control Tech bikes were XT and later XT/LX mix. The Control Tech Homegrowns did not have true “Bass Boat” metal flake paint, only solid color paint with the same checkered flag and USA tomato decals. I’ve seen a handful of Yeti made Homegrowns in person, all have a tomato decal with the words “Factory USA” on them. Keep in mind that there were only 500 Yeti made Homegrowns and that number is thought to be on the high side. Only the Yeti made Schwinn Straight 6 full suspension with the Mert Lawwill 4 bar linkage swing arm came in Bass Boat red/gold or Bass Boat blue (see #3 below).

Possibly one of the original 300 made by Control Tech, Pre-Yeti (see #1 below):

    http://rockies.en.craigslist.org/bik/4065549493.html

This seller is right to call his bike a Control Tech made frame but he is wrong to call his bike “Bass Boat” as it is not gold flake, merely blue (see #2 below).

Bonus Tomato has it all spelled out and verified by people from Yeti.

Ha- That’s funny rbonif, that’s exactly what my buddy did couple weeks ago but he didn’t trust getting tossed around on the trails so we changed it up and did a road ride instead… he ended up puking his guts out just before the turnaround point.

You nailed it there vpc66, that’s exactly how it always goes with life’s quitters getting out almost before the challenge starts and those that life has hardened that last until the end. I had this old punker buddy that wouldn’t take any of life’s crap, he always jumped in to stick up for the young ones and the girls at a punk show or a party. Any and every time someone was being picked on or treated poorly, he’d come to their aid, the only problem this guy couldn’t fight to save his life! Knowing full well he’d get the crap kicked out of him, he be right there defending someone in need. His kindness always made it easy for me to lend a hand or two when it turned pear-shaped for him as I too hated bullies and racists. I never needed much prompting to end their night early… they all had it coming!!!

Absolutely Vinny, right there with ‘ya my good brother! It’s been more than 7 months since I was in the hospital for 5 days with those butchers talking all their mess about cutting my leg off. I was literally down for a month, no bikes, period end of story! No way I could throw a leg over a bike, my skin and muscles couldn’t take it, can’t forget the IV hangin’ out of my arm for a month but the desire was there to ride asap. I didn’t blame life for my situation and I certainly didn’t expect anything of the world to give a damn or make any exceptions for my situation. Where does all this apathy come from? This entitlement that somehow life owes them something. What a bunch of crap! There are no promises and no one is owed anything! Where does this line of thinking come from? Case in point, my wife has 17 furlough days this school year and I have 12. Between us that’s more than a month of lost income, we’re not happy, but we know there are so many other people dealing with much worse… and this is after we both lost our second jobs with the county to budget cuts. Still with all that we’re thankful for the employment we have and that gives us hope for the future.

    Apologies for ruining the surprise.

Certainly not my good man, you ruined nothing!

Now I’m off the hook if it doesn’t happen and I won’t have to feel lousy about myself… then I’ll get all depressed and have to pop a bunch of anti-depressants and listen to Joy Division and start cutting myself with a razor blade!

    -or-

I can go ride my bike and say F*CK IT ! ! !

I swear if more people rode the bikes in their garages and got off all the pills, we’d all be in such a better place! Damn, if they could create a pill for the joy of riding, they would (you know they would), and more people would be ever more lazy and f*cked up!

*** I should mention that I spent a few hours wrenching at the LBS this afternoon listening to so many sad sacks driveling on about their poor health and how hard life is and that’s why they can’t make time to ride… Blah, blah, blah… now, I’m a little crisp!!! Sorry gang.***

I’ve exchanged a few emails with the seller, I’m trying to line it up for next weekend, we’re visiting my wife’s grandmother who live in the same small beach city north of San Diego. I figured I’d pass the frame on to mixalive or vpc66 as my memory serves they both ride 14″ frames. It was going to be a surprise but the Cuda is outta the fish bowl… I know you both have Comp Cudas already but I figured another couldn’t hurt. No problem if both of you aren’t interested, my lil’ angel is riding a 12″ A2Z these days, a 14″ Comp would be a nice next step. In fact, forget you guys! I’m keepin’ it!!! Sorry, just messin’ with ‘ya, I’ll keep you posted…

    That’s messed up..

That’s 7000 aluminum for ‘ya… just like all the Cudas that have cracked! 🙄

Maybe I’ll take a pair of those machined rings for the new Folsom they sent me. It would be nice to avoid that messed I went through with the Otis. It still surprises me since the bike was only a few years old and hadn’t been used on trails.

I think you’re both right, somewhere there is an answer to this shady business, but this is a site used by sellers as it’s concise and easy to navigate with accurate information. I see a number of ads that reference the bike specs page or link to this site. Man, the other day I logged on to see if there was any cleaning up to do, I was the only registered user but there were 13 guests. 😯

    Manbeer… whatta’ punk!!!

That’s funny Mix, thanks for the morning laugh!!! I haven’t thought about that fool since the last time you “Manbeer’ed” the board! Good call with the personalized photo… I really hope it doesn’t come to that! It’s getting worse for sure, what is that a handful of bogus listings in one week? Outrageousness!!!

Bastids!!! That brick fire place is the running joke with my riding buddies… “Light weight bike, right? Check out how it cracked the wall… sweet! Ha-ha!!!” I get that often but damn man this sucks that scandalous folks are snaggin’ images off Google and trying to rip people off! You know, I bet they’ve seen those inflated prices on Ebay and think they can come up on some quick cash and that’s why they’re pinklin’ our pics! Bunch’o’suckas!!!
