    There are two bikes named “Appaloosa” and you have the older one… the new one is made by Rivendell and they cost $5,000.00. Sorry Ron, no monster payday today! That said, the original Appaloosa was a K2 bike made in the 1990s, K2 bikes fazed in as Pro-Flex fazed out in the mid-90s, they had the same parent comapny. I’m almost positive it was outsourced and made by Trek, it would have been a better line for K2 (being US made as opposed to one made in Asia) but a mid-line in the Trek hierarchy because it was tig welded CrMo tubing as opposed to the lugged True Temper OX 2 tubing on the Trek. It’s not a bad bike by any means, it has the same characteristics as the Trek like “USA” on the seat stays and bent tubing cable stop (see photos), but it’s just not a higher end tube set. Also, be sure that it has 26″ wheels and not 24″ wheels that I’m remembering… hence, why it’s called “Gran Pony” on the down tube.

    Thanks for the kind words! I agree with you, the proper gold stem looks so much better than the raw aluminum one that was on there. I have a neighbor that’s a bit of a gorilla at times, he’s always turning up if he sees the garage door open. He turns up and starts in on me about the whole gold thing, this leads him to carry on about me being Liberace. Great…

    Hey fellow Cudaheads,

    Here is a teaser shot of my NOS Tioga stem that I bought off Ebay a short while back. The Ebay seller was mistaken when he listed the stem as a ControlTech, it’s actually a Tioga Race Ultra stem. The stem arrived in a blank box, he didn’t want to list the stem as “NOS” since it was missing the original decals and box. As luck would have it, I happen to have a NOS set of Tioga Race stem decals. After polishing the stem with Simichrome (those crazy Germans!), I installed the decals, and now the NOS gold looks proper with the gold paint on my A2L! My A2L is on temporary retirement, rebuilding the bike is my winter project. I’ve been after a gold anodized Tioga stem for years, Tioga was an early sponsor for our beloved Cudas, and the gold anodizing was/is an exact match for the A2L frames (aka 1st gen. team frame). This stem nicely completes my collection of NOS Tioga parts, perfectly suited to go with the triple butted NOS Tioga DL2001 handlebar and set post! All I need is an embroidered IRC/Sella Italia saddle and my build would be finished. It would be rather boring if the build was ever “done” as I can’t seem to ever commit to any one build. As this is my winter project, I may lose the Avid v-brakes and return to the more aesthetically pleasing cantilever brakes and keep my A2Limited semi-retro.

    Thank you my good man! I used to hang up in Venice a lot with a few cute punk girls, I can tell you that the famous Venice Beach boardwalk is loaded with plenty of girls like the one pictured. It used to be a favorite place to sip a few brews and enjoy the scenery!

    Yes, I actually have 3 Mtb singlespeeds a Bianchi SASS, a custom Bontrager Race light (with Surly Sub-11 dropouts welded on) and a Rocklobster. While I like riding my singlespeeds, I also like vintage bikes with original parts like my Cuda..

    I’m a visual person, how about some photos of those fine bikes?

    I’m especially interested in custom Bonty Race Lite, it sounds very similar to my old one. I bought a 1992 Bonty S.S. from one of the team riders back when the Bontrager Team travelled around in an old 70’s American station wagon. The ex-team rider still races but skateboarding is his passion and he started Cohort USA Skateboards, Cohort specializes in vintage style decks for pool and vert ramp skating. If any of you skate and remember the good ol’ stuff, cool stuff and a good guy for sure… here is a link to his site:

    Back in the 90’s at InterBike, the Rocklobster booth was running a funny sound loop, it was Homer Simpson’s voice saying “MMM… Rocklobster!” instead of “MMM… Donuts!”

    What ‘da hell is up with the A2E ‘Cudas lately… the A2E is an uber rare ‘Cuda… and yet here come a bunch of FNG’s (no offense intended) with A2E ‘Cudas! (Hell yes, I’m a poet and I know it!) All the new A2E’s are madness!!! Where is my A2E, dad’gum’it?!!!

    Your boss must be something of an understanding guy, they’ve canned people at my work for the same. Granted it’s at a public school, the whole pervert thing, but there is no wiggle room nor explaining that one away.

    These girls were tough! They did the Anarchy In The UK Tour in 1976 with The Damned, Sex Pistols, The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders formerly of The New York Dolls), and The Clash… no girlie-girl act as they could hang with a seriously rough scene! There were other girls tearing it up in the scene too, like Siouxsie & The Banshees and Nina Hagen… those acts inspired later bands like The Muffs and Bikini Kill.

    That would certainly be the crown jewel in a Barracuda collection! My collection of bikes is too diversified and Mark has his Ultimate project… guess Sheriff Mixalive needs a new project! Don’t worry the misses won’t notice another!
