Yep, someone is using my photo for reference to sell their Cuda. That shot was taken beside my garage, on Avenue Rd. North in Toronto. I can bet that nobody would use the purple grips on that bike. I used them because that’s what I used back when I was racing, though I was racing on a Purple 95 Comp, so they went well.

I wish I had the time to do this sort of stuff right now, but with 3 small kids it’s difficult. I hope you’ll be riding a Barracuda and showing it proudly! Please consider posting some pictures after you get back!Best,

Just received an email update from David this morning. The items I am happy to receive are:– Comp of Barracuda dealer display
– 2 Tree Amigos ads as they ran in Bicycling and Bicycle Guide magazines
– A dealer benefit worksheet
– A dealer reply tear off card
– A VERY early comp of the original Barracuda that was (thankfully) never used
– Several dealer certificates
– A genuine, never worn, original Barracuda race jersey from Revi CyclewearThis is by far the largest donation that the website has received, and I am ecstatic. I will have images and scans of this material online within a week of receiving it.
If you wish to thank David yourselves, you can reach him via his website. The link is on the acknowledgements page of the website.
Best,

Wow, yep. The COMP was a kick-ass frameset, had one myself. I’d have snatched that one up had I been looking..

Great question about upgrading components. Here’s the straight truth:If you upgrade the components and sink some money into it, you’ll have a crap frame with great components. No point in sugar coating it.
It won’t make it a better or lighter bike, but if and when you jump to a better frame, you already have some great parts to throw on it.Suspension fork is ok, even without a gusset, but stick to the forks made around 95,96 with little travel (58mm), or else you’ll change the geometry too much and it won’t handle well.

That seems like the worst (best) wreck without injury that I’ve heard of so far..

There’s a strong resemblance between the Yeti ARC and the Barracuda Unlimited, for obvious reasons..

Hi Mark,Welcome to the site, and thanks for sharing your story. Do you still have your original 1995/96 frame? This can be repaired, if you’re willing to spend a little bit of money to do it.
Because your crack didn’t spread while you used the bike, I’d think it’s either a very minor crack, or you don’t abuse the frame when you ride. Either way, it’s better news for you. There are a few companies scattered about that will precisely measure the outside of your headtube, and put a ring or sleeve around it, thereby reinforcing the area cracked. They can also weld this into place.
A lot of people wouldn’t trust it, but I’ve seen this repair work and if you love the frame that much, and wish to put it back into service, this may be the option for you.

There are indeed quiet times with a site like this. I myself have been busy with other (non Barracuda) things, but like clockwork, I’ll end up coming back for one reason or another. Right now, I’m digging through my decal files, getting some ready for a generic download, for those who wish to create their own. Should be ready soon.
