Well, I did it! But the spring that I used was a little bit short, so I had to put some aluminum spacers and an elastomer in the bottom. I packed the other leg with elastomers and still have 4 pieces left for future maintenence. I took my bike for a short spin and it handles pretty well, hopefully it’s gonna stay the same for the long run.- September 7, 2013 at 7:19 am

Neo_pop_71, I will try to do that upgrade since i do have a leftover spring from an old cheap fork. Hopefully it’s going to work. Yeah, when I cleaned the Manitou, I noticed that the bottom elastomers were melted, firs I didn’t know that those were actually elastomers, thought that is grease. Besides the 2 bottom ones, the rest of them are in decent shape, so I will use them in one of the legs(I suppose it’s for dampning). The elastomer kit would cost about 80usd with shipping to Romania, maybe that’s to much. What kind of grease did you use for lubing in the legs, both elastomers and spring?- September 5, 2013 at 9:01 am

Hey vpc66, what did you do with that marzo? I’m asking, because i I found an cx60 for sale(needs some tune up), for about 15 bucks. Are they reliable? Thinking about swaping it with my Manitou 3, until I buy a new pack of elastomers.- August 22, 2013 at 8:58 pm

I just bouth a frameset(Mbk), with the Shimano Dx line, for the same reason…part it out and sell it. I’m going to put a couple of hours of work into that(clean/grease the parts) and try to sell them.- August 22, 2013 at 6:49 pm

Honestly that’s one of the main reasons i like old bikes, you have to sweat a little to make it better, always improving, upgrading, finding the goodies for it. It takes involvment, passion.- August 19, 2013 at 7:15 am

Here it is in it’s actual shape, with the blemishes, major scratches. I changed that cable routing improv, instead of putting back the cantilevers. The xt v-brakes have more stopping power than the lx cantilevers that were on the bike. Plus it came with some cheap, non working 3×8 combo shifter/levers, a pair of even worse wheels, and…oh well, i’m going to post a picture with the bike in it’s “original shape”(first pic).- August 18, 2013 at 5:08 pm

I went to a local business specialized in cnc, and tried to work something out with them, but they didn’t show any interrest in helping me out(to busy for bike stuff), so for now i’m stucked with the silver faceplate. Hope is not lost though!- August 18, 2013 at 9:05 am

Well, you have a good point there Neo! The original paint’s shape is not horrible, just a couple of chips on the rear triangle, especially on the chainstays. I removed some new era stickers(TLD, RaceFace) from the frame and i cleaned it with a cloth and a bit of gasoline. When i bought the bike i didn’t know much about Barracuda, but meanwhile i did some reading and that’s how i found you guys. It’s nice when something has a history behind it and especially if there are enthusiastic folks keeping it alive and rollin’! And Neo, what about i’ll send you that H20, for a Zooka faceplate 😈 ?
