I laugh when I read the part about the chromed XT cassette because I did the same thing. When I bought parts for the Cuda I went after the parts that had less weight but folks claim were good, yes my buddies called me a weight weenie ..don’t care..but with the cassette I turn away from a TI 9 spd cassette for the chrome one because they look great all clean on the bike before you ride the trail.
By chance do you have a clue as to what 7 spd cassette I had…as I said it had the large cut outs like yours but the small blades that ran out from the center to the gear part did not have a curve at the center like yours..they ran straight all the way. I always felt that it was a higher end cassette because cheap cassettes have the cut outs shape like yours but way smaller giving more metal to each gear…I should have kept that thing just because,as said have never seen another one like it..it came on a shimano parallax hub…so was it a cheapie that look cool or good I don’t know.
With Sram and you know I love em..I heard 2013 was not good for them and Shimano made a comeback on them…As you know from the era I built my Cuda I have the 9.0 but I put pre 13′ X9 on my Son’s Trek and have to say they are sweet..I would love to get the pre 13′ X0 in ti and carbon for my Cuda and leave the 9.0 shifters…I don’t feel the shifters have improve over the years but the derailleur is SWEET !
