To anybody that makes a homemade workstand using barclamps….just remember the clamp force will be high and if you overclamp your frame or seatpost it will be trash…

Used a bar clamp in a different way from my second thought but if you could spend the extra funds on the pipe stock that would be the way to go with not as much bulk and trip hazard as the 2×4 base. Heck if you have cross beams in the work shop area you could mount the pipe to that and have the area around and under the bike free and clear.

There are a few things that come to mind to make sure the bike will stay in place with that as a base and still not spend big bucks. Simple would be to set a block maybe three inches in from the open end of the arm with rubber or foam set in gap to protect the seatpost then just to be sure the bike does not slide out drill a hole for a fastpin or bolt to slide in place after bike is set in holder.
Second thought….grab bar clamp parts from hardware place with short piece of bar stock, then cut one side of arm off keeping that part place a block at cut end to make arm solid. Then clamp cut part in place tight and use a hole saw to make a matching half moon on both parts then drill a hole sideways through both parts for the bar stock and clamp parts to pull them togather around the seat post…could put felt or rubber to protect the seat post.
Both should be cheap setups to hang the bike where you could work on it and better than nothing…before I bought my stand I would hang the bike from a tree limb with rope…drove me nuts how the bike would swing all around.

Do not mean to twist the knife but……THAT SUCKS!!!
The Bontrager frames go for big coin on flea-bay and make killer looking vintage singlespeed rides, sorry you gave it up but how does one know what will be worth something years down the road or just a turd in the corner of the garage.
And so glad you ask what Bontager had to do with the weather ???

Chris King parts are like gifts from the GODS…My headset and hubs will be around long after I am gone I bet. The only time my hubs drive me nuts is on the late night rides around the neighborhood with my Son…if you know about king hubs you understand…..11:30 or so at night and that BUZZZZZZZ is super LOUD….. 😯

By the way I look back at the first pictures you shown here on this thread on the tear down of the bike and you have a threadless stem laying next to the ridgid forks from the bike..so my guess is yep..never a threaded set up.

Pee30Wee a threaded headset is old school where you use a quill stem, think more department store bikes…not that good bikes do not use them just old style bikes would have. The quill stem slides into the steer tube and a bolt runs down through the stem and pulls a wedge up tight to lock it in place.
Threadless the stem clamps down on the steer tube to hold all parts in place with the top cap having a bolt that screws into the star nut in the steertube.
I will post two pictures of headsets…the first will be a threaded and the second will be a threadless so you can see the differents.

P.S….If you need to see pictures of the bikes with a threaded headset my Lotus in the roadbike thread, the first pictures of Don’s Raskel before he changed to the 29 front end and I believe pictures of his Daughters bike .

Oooops…forgot to write one of my friend would like it but he is from Vermont..haha..That is what gets me for writing and working at same time, forgot I did not finish the line.
And I knew that line would get you…I also DO NOT smoke…ANYTHING…Coca Cola was my one down side but I have cut that back to just a few a month if that.
I get my buzz from riding and diving which is why I am going insane because of the forced slow down in thrill time.
So what spots do you run to on the bikes when not riding off road in nature?

Yep! Places like that sure are nice. We have a small one on the Pinellas trail where it ends in Tarpon Springs plus along the way you pass other spots set up for riders to eat and back door bikeshops and such. Local bike clubs run neighbor hood site runs..yes some are pub runs. One of the small towns a few years back started a annual bike race/crit thru the town. Take away the snow and change the PBR to Majic Hat (he is from Vermont…local beer there) and he would be there in a heart beat..For me just hanging out with other riders would be cool…I do not drink coffee nor beer

Was it Pee Wee with the bike hanging from bars of some sort….he might build his own off these plans. I know I love using my work stand from washing to working on parts it makes a big difference to have the bike set up where you can deal with it. I have one of the older Ultimates which I know it is not a Park but it has been very good to me.

Glad to have you on board and very happy you saved a Cuda, would have been a shame to know one became land fill…hurry and post some pic’s. By the way was it just parts or full bike…if parts will we see another build tread going up!!!

I should have known you knew about them!
And that is a good price,I have seen rusty frames go for that but I do beleive that is a late model…does not seem to have the classic seat post plus the crankset and chainring…early ones ran the skiptooth rings…still nice for a fat tire.

    * After I noticed the year under the pic…late model*

Hey I check out that link you post with the pictures…Man you are all over the net with different type of bikes. Ratbikes ,singlespeed ,cudas and bmx….made me start thinking, have you ever seen any Colsons show up…I always tell my family (which they did not know it was a brand of bicycle)that one day I will buy one to restore even though I do not care that much for early fat tires just the point as you know my last name being Colson I think it would be kinda cool.
