Hey the first step was pulling her out of the corner, second maybe fixing her up for a nostalgic ride from time to time….I see nothing wrong with that! Last time out with mine a guy from a group rode by on his modern AM bike, smiled and said I remember those, it is fun to pull out old school cool from time to time.Glad to see you chime in on the forum as well, keep it up and please post some more pic’s …trail pic’s or local hang out shots make all feel good to see.

See if this works….Hey they work for a change !!!! Well ” D ” you know my plan will not use those forks or stem and the saddle needs to be restored, but for those who care…this is the start of my 36 Colson board track inspired ride. I have the front hub and cream color brick tread tires also. The color I have in mind is sea foam green which I think will be nice for a ride from that era…- February 18, 2015 at 2:20 pm

Yep, I feel a narrow style bar would flow better with the rear of the bike, I was thinking more drag bar style but you have the seat set way back….which is part of the cool look of the build so far so need to work with that. I will check out the shims or hit up one of the shops I am friendly with and see if I could check they shim out for thickness before I buy…- February 17, 2015 at 9:15 pm

I have pic’s of the parts, well none of the saddle at this time. As I said on FB, I can dry fit the BB area and with the rigid forks and the stem on there I can put the handlebars on, which none of that will be used, if I do not get those bars re chrome I will get different bars in same style..I figure the cost could be the same but need to check that out first. There is a shim on ebay but they want a butt load for it, I thought about doing a mod with a modern seat post shim if I could get one thick enough..that post is 5/8 and the seat tube is 13/16…they sure did some funky sizes back then. There was on post that had those sizes made on it but I wanted to use the one you got and flip it around so the normal part the seat goes on is in the seat post tube so I can get the seat back a bit more and really rake it out .- February 17, 2015 at 2:13 pm

My guess is to wide, the rear of the bike has the classic slick muscle bike look then those bars go BAM way out to the side like a beach bike. If you could find a narrow bar that angles back …idea I would throw out is something along the lines of a drag bar like they do on motorcycles, might need a double clamp stem for a setup like that….- February 17, 2015 at 4:40 am

Like the Vanilla road bikes! Yeah I figured you were going to say to much of a reach for the Soma bars. Shame the paint job is fubar and I hate when folks wrap bike locks on the frame !- February 17, 2015 at 1:26 am

Like the look of the old layback with the Nana seat, did you buff that frame out because the color pops in your picture unless you just have better photo equipment…looks good ! What crank set up do you plan on running..have seen old profile cranks used that look great by the way ! Cool job D !- February 10, 2015 at 4:36 am

Have my grubby little hands on a number of parts but this is a slow build finding parts I want that are close to being period correct or close, a few items will be new with a old school flare. I have been making my choice of parts on period parts with the best chrome I can find in hope to keep from having to redo the chrome so they will have slight blemish here and there.- January 30, 2015 at 5:58 pm

Sooo….anybody beside D and I care to share fond memories of their early bikes and what they did with them ? How many X bmx guys here, and if so what did you ride…now understand if you rode a PK I will cry like a little girl ! My last and favorite was a Gt pro race (never got into trick riding, but love bikes so it is all good ) but I wanted a PK so bad 😥- January 29, 2015 at 4:23 am

Humm, so you guys were into them but does stand to reason being that is where it all start and we were still behind. I remember reading in one of the BMX mags about the benefits of running front ( and these days after riding MTB I understand ) plus the other thing that cracks me up is the tooth count. Back then we ran big rings and cog where these days the drop tooth count for more rpm than muscle the bike around the track, thing that gets me is back then one of the guys I ran with was a Co-factory for GT and towards the end of our bmx time he push us to try spinning
