I believe you have a bike, the part that gets me is ” This thing is BRAND NEW (NOS), and i got it for $40!!! ” that kills me ! With the fad of single speeds going on it is rare to find just a frame for that on e-bay unless it is beat to hell or has a crack in it…Nice score Wild Man, now show some pictures of it. I wrote this then remember I grab that Gt for ten bucks but it was in major need of TLC..I guess if you catch a person out of the loop or could care less..- October 27, 2013 at 5:05 am

For what build Derek?
To me that thing screams for a vintage SS setup, but if you want to do your 1x or 2x ride I would think a frame that is a bit more aggressive looking , like a CUDA or something later would be better. That is old school but it is what ever you like and feel would be cool to ride..if you get it have fun with what ever build you do !- October 27, 2013 at 2:05 am

Yea Derek, that is what I wrote at the top. If you type in Barracuda mtb for sale they come up as bikes sold across the pond, but his frame looks like the Cuda bikes here and I believe he stated that he can not find history of the model which I gave it a shot myself and the model name came up tied to those yet no picture or info…must say it is kind of cool, he bought the thing new, has papers for it but it is one that tracking down history is a pain. I hope one of the guys that work for Barracuda will jump in and say something. I mean some products have a US and European market right…could that be the case…same bike but different to meet what they think the local buyers would like ???- October 26, 2013 at 2:28 am

Why feel guilty, the guy has let them hang with no love giving to them plus, have you seen and fondled them yet…they might be worth 20 bucks if they are beat to death. If not ENJOY and ride them like you stole them…oooops you did !- October 25, 2013 at 4:38 pm

Welcome to the group, hope you enjoy! Will be interesting to see what info comes from your bike in the group. I have seen new Barracuda bikes for sale on line from England and just thought the name was bought after Ross closed their line down…but you say you bought it new in 95 , THIS WILL BE FUN when Mark get on line to write about because he knows a good amount of the History. Think I will kick back and watch this post and see what becomes.Cheers………Vinnie

My 90 Cannondale road bike is a 7 and wish I could get a 8 spd cassette that I have laying around on it, but it is older one. That hub is the one they did right before the change, it has the threads on the end so you could run older cassettes where the last gear threads on to hold it in place or run the newer set up that you see today but…it is still to short to put a 8 on. I thought about putting a newer body on to use on the Lotus, but the wheel set it self is not a very high end model so it might be a waste.- October 24, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Sorry Derek but do you mean cassette, most up-to -date freewheel hub bodies will carry 8/9/10 you could run 7 if you cared for that you just run a spacer on the hub to take up the extra space. I am trying to remember how the chain is, I do know one for a 11 is narrow but want to say that is the next step and one chain should work for the other three. As stated before, I drank the single speed KOOL-AID so I would say if you really want a 1x? I would do no more than a GOD I want to say 8 but I bet you want to go big so 9. I know from Neo’s post he really likes 7 . I take it you have been checking out up-to-date top end bikes, they are set up with two in the front because of less weight and the fact that there is no need for three on the front for somebody in shape and more than likely racing, bet that came from the single speed fad which showed the super low gears are a waste of time when you can just man the bike up the climb or get off and run up the hill faster than spinning low gears.- October 24, 2013 at 3:32 am

Thanks for the thought D but unless you were able to see the thing in person, we feel it was a 12. But the thing had some nice parts which bought at the 100 bucks would have been nice for another build, that is for sure!- October 21, 2013 at 7:56 pm
