I have read about folks being arrested for making trails on land that does not belong to them..but the local MTB clubs here have days were members go and do repair work or make new paths in the parks where we can ride. We have a few parks right now that set land out for off road riding being setup with brand new paths.Shock or rigid? If it will only be used on the road really no reason for a bouncy front end !- March 20, 2014 at 7:41 pm

I envy you guys in states that can ride out to trails from your home on the bike, where I have to load and drive a long ways. But when I do get to the MTB Park I do not have to worry about folks that ride horses that feel they are special or hikers. Our MTB Parks are made for bikes and only bikes, we only need worry if the trail is a one way or not and during rain season some paths close down due to low swampy land and we try to protect the trails from erosion …plus it sucks to run up on gators or snakes !Ps..Derek beat me to it..I can see a fence stopping the fun but a tree you go over or around

Thanks for the reply on my question Chitown, do you use the diy set up..as in the frame or have you set up with a truing stand, dish tool and spoke tension meter….what is your view on that?
And hats off to the gang that made it out for some riding,it is cool to work on bikes but riding is still better and the whole reason we have these things !- March 17, 2014 at 2:57 pm

Kids, washing clothes, wife at work…yea I thought about pulling one of the bikes out for a quick neighbor hood ride, maybe to hit the local park for a spin…but NO! I did start lacing up a rear wheel because I want to learn wheel building and have a old set I can play with…well dealing with the kids and clothes right as I am close to finish ….duh…being the last few spokes going in…I notice I had the count off on other side which screwed things up.. start over..errrr.
Question….how many of you guys deal with every aspect of the bike build. A few of my riding buddies that have put bikes together will put parts on as I have but when it comes to making a wheelset they say NO…Am I stupid to think it would be, shall I say fun with a bit of self reward in learning to true and build wheels- March 12, 2014 at 1:22 am

But ” D ” the spokes on Spox are made out of carbon and to my knowledge …now I never HAD a set but I was told they could and have ( the bike shop owner ) snap while riding plus have read things about them on the internet…. BUT …. I did write that so he would know there were stories about them and at the end wish luck. I am sure not every item on one of those DO NOT BUY LIST will have the issues folks claim, as you have been lucky with yours and remember my wheelset…folks cry about revolution spokes plus my set has alloy nips and Ti skewers, and god forbid radial lace spokes on king hubs..Everything folks cry about and I wanted the rear to have the non-drive side radial but TED ( shop owner ) refuse to do that…All these years later and they are still tight and true.
By the way, show pic’s if you have any of your rides with the spox…just because I chicken out of using them does not mean I lost my love for their looks !- March 9, 2014 at 3:32 am

OH YEA! Spinergy Spox was the wheelset that I had the hots for when I built my Cuda because the shop owner I bought my frame from had use them for a time. I change my mind when he told me the spokes snap easy and the hubs have issues. So he built my wheelset with King classic hubs and DT revolution spokes lace to Bontrager rims …strength and less weight than the Spinergy. But if you go for them, they are cool and give a bike a look, hope it was just talk and they work for you !- March 8, 2014 at 10:00 pm

It has semi-horizontal, but the hardrock has a small bridge in the center of the drop out which I cut out and file smooth so I could have more play room to work the gears…I have a 16 tooth for the rear as well but would need to run a half link. She rides great even being the red headed step child HARDROCK…most Specialized guys only have eyes for the upper models made out of nicer tubes…but for a cheap ride I think I have done well !
Coming up with the magic gear clean or with half link is the one thing that makes me uneasy about doing a single speed on a Cuda, because I do not care for the look of a chain tensioner ….plus it is so quiet with out extra mess in the drivetrain ….though I have enough scrap laying around to set up a 1 X 7 or 8 ….another thing from your build post that has me going HUMMM! The only thing you have shown and I know you love, but the look does not click to me nor understand why on a offroad bike is the dirt drop bars…but to each their own, still enjoy the stuff you show .
