Here is how the bike looks now (this was last month up in Copper Harbor, MI)

    [/url]

Running a pretty light Indy SL, and a 25.4 Thudbuster shimmed up to 26.4

I had to put the swept back bars on there for her – the long and low geometry of this is still a bit much for her, but of course now the handling is a bit wonky with the grips back there.

It’s still a nice light ride though, however even at 9 years old and quite tall, the 26″ wheels are a bit “29er” ish for her and she prefers her 24″ wheeled bikes.

p.s. – there is a screaming deal on 12″ a 1995 A2T comp right now on the Classic MTB Trader Page. If I didn’t have this I’d be ALL over it. Al frame, Manitou 3, LX/XT kit.

    Finally done.

That is not her saddle height, but it’s maxed out with all of the post that is left. She can just barely ride it with the seat slammed all the way down.

The rear brake cable routing is sort of a kludge here – I may try to get some stainless tubing and make a permanent loop to get it around the seat tube. Seems like a poor design unless I am missing a part.

I went ghetto with plastic casing and a zip tie to hold it against the top tube just ahead of the seat tube. Not thrilled with this, but it works.

If anyone has done a cleaner job, I would love pics.

Found a couple of forks for it.

This is an old trek cromo fork, 410mm a-c I think. Also bought a RockShoz Indy SL for $5. My buddy donated the King Headset.

The reach and standover are a bit much for her right now. I’m really hoping she can go from her 20″ bike to this without having to bother with a 24″….

I’ve trimmed a bunch off the seatpost already to get it in that far, but it hits the bottle bosses in the seat tube.

Next step is getting a longer BB (the 107mm I have is too short) and getting the 150mm A-C BMX cranks mounted.

ok, so now it’s a new riding season and I want to start building this to see if it’s a “this summer” bike or a “next summer” bike for her, but need a fork to do so. Do I want something in the 440-450 A-C range for this? I’m guessing a non-suspension corrected fork (395mm) will be too short, and something like a Surly 1×1 that is corrected an 80 (or 100)mm fork will be too long.

    Any input here?

HEY RmPlum how is your daughter doing on her new pink ride…you had wrote that May was her birthday month…you wait for the birthday or has she been riding it??

Great, everything turned out very nice…The powdercoat looks great and seems very durable.

Even got the 155mm AC cranks installed on it (using a BMW to English BB converter) and Shimano 107mm square taper cartridge BB.

I’ll move those cranks over to the ‘Cuda when she is ready for it. I do have possession of the frame now. It was a little (a lot?) heavier than I expected (4.6 lbs for a tiny little 12″ dbl butted frame…?), but she thought it was cool, so now it’s just a waiting game. The 20″ bike fits her well, so I have time to get if finished.

You plan on making it a 1X ? for her, how old is she?

She turns 6 in early May, but she is really tall for her age. She just got a 20″ bike, so I have a year or two until she is ready for this.

yeah, it will be a 1×8 or 1×7 initially. I got the cranks installed on her HotRock today. Way cool.

Here is the American to euro adapter:

    Shimano cartridge BB installed:

    BAM!

I used a 107mm spindle – just clears the kickstand housing

Chainline is a few mm off, but really it wasn’t perfect with the 1-piece crank either.

Almost buttoned up and ready to roll – after I find some pedals for it. No more kiddy size pedals!

The more I work on this POS HotRock frame, the more anxious I am for her to grow into that ‘Cuda.

    Ummm.. You did WELL. ;)

Thanks. Now the challenge is to build it up, make it cool and not spend way too much $ doing so.

I just scored some cool 150mm AC MiniLE BMX cranks. Those should work for her a few more years and will work well with a bike this size I think.

    It is in fantastic shape.

supposedly this is the worst blemish:

Like I said, I’m $85 into it so far. Hope that is not outrageous, but the condition is pretty fantastic and I didn’t know how many 12″ frames like this are out there.

I just got a set of 150mm AC MiniLE BMX cranks for $30 that I think I will convert to her current bike, and then move along to this one when she is ready.
