    Hey Mix(alive)-

Hit every thread in all the forums with…

    mixalive was here.

That’ll easily add 30 or 40 posts to your total and you’ll be challenging Mark for supremacy!
Dare you challenge the rankmaster for the power to label?
    Choose carefully grasshopper…

    I leave you in peace,

psst… Mark, I had nothing to do with Mix’s mutiny, you have my faithful devotion ;)

Yep… I stupidly sold two ‘Cudas for significant losses, all because I let my bike passion for steel hardtails turn into a obsession and I felt compelled to thin the herd. Big mistake! I’m sure you could start a thread all about bike regret and everyone could contribute something… mountain, road, BMX, CX, or whatever. That’s why I now have only one ‘Cuda now and I check in on this forum regularly, use you ‘Cudaheads to help remind me how great these bikes are!

Big thanks for the direct/indirect therapy, the “shrink” (and my wife) says I’m making progress… Ha-ha… my wife awoke this morning to another steel hardtail in the family room. Last night’s impulse buy, $25.00 for a 1988 Asahi, Japanese made with lugged Tange MTN Crmo tubing. It was just too good to pass up!

    Cheers,

    Hey ctk-

Great job on the build, it’s looking fabulous! Better job on the kid, beautiful lil’ future cyclist you have there, ‘gots the racer’s eyes!!! My little one sent me to the moon when she was born, every day she keeps me in orbit! You must enjoy a challenge… restoring bikes, having a baby, and moving??? Life wasn’t full enough?

    Well done!!!

    Best wishes,

    -DON-

p.s. Sneak a nap or a power-sleep as often as possible but don’t forget to tend to the misses (just kidding), like she’d let you forget. Good luck!

    Hey manbeer,

Let me be the first welcome… it’s always nice to have an addicted ‘Cuda fan! I look forward to those pics! I have a ’93 A2L that I’m finishing up a rebuild/upgrade. It’s cool to come across another A2L owner, there doesn’t seem to be too many.

    Best regards,

    Hey Cuda,

Thanks for the appreciative word, I’m old school for sure! I started racing road in ’86 and mountain XC in ’90, I feel I lived and road through the best period in mountain bike history. Those late 80’s into mid/late 90’s were super! They pushed frame design, suspension, materials and did with with style… anodized and CNC’ed everything!!! I feel weird when I grab a friend’s 29’er or all mountain ride, give me a rigid steel bike any day!

Johnny T. is a bike god, period!!! No one did what he did… road champ, cyclocross champ, XC champ, slalom champ, and downhill champ… end of story as far as I’m concerned! No one will repeat what he achieved and he probably has more to do with pushing the “race” design than anyone else. Consider the fact the he developed the Johnny T. signature Mongoose (yes, for the newbies, Mongoose has a decorated winning history before becoming a WallyWorld hunk of junk) that he won the World Championship on, then he did the same for Raleigh, and again for Yeti. Each time the builds were more “extreme” and “aggressive” in design.

I would love to see one of the weekend warriors bombing all over the Fullerton Loop with their 40 lbs all-mountain tech bike do a fraction of anything J.T. was doing on a rigid bike! That said, we must forgive him for his other signature… his signature mullet! 😯 😆 😮 😳 😥 (please feel free to choose a smilie).

    Hey Bones,

Do you have the complete ’93 Barracuda catalog?

If so, does it have any info on the “Crossfire” hybrid model? I was checking out ctk’s posting in the MARKETPLACE forum for a Crossfire for sale in Vegas. I’m interested in it but there is nothing online regarding that model. Please let me know, thanks!

    Best regards,

    Hey Mix(alive)-

I think I forgot to mention the elastomer poo inside the fork legs, sorry about that! Did you go with the more expensive adjustable insert or just the Wing’s springs? I opted for the heavy/heavy springs with no adjustment (I can still preload the fork) on my Manitou 2 because I wanted the Mani to be more like a rigid “locked out” fork. The problem is I sold my ’91 Stumpjumper frame, so now I have no frame/bike with 1″ threaded steer tube… one more parts into the bin!

Let me know what you think of the ride quality.

    Happy trails,

Sweet ride! I’m only minorly familiar with Pesenti frames… it looks like it’s fillet brazed at the all the joints. Is that true? If so, I’m going to start looking for one!

    Nice!

When I used to have my art studio in downtown L.A., sawed-offs were always thought of as “special choice” when you wanted to say “Hey!!!” to someone from a moving vehicle. Now, I live in the suburbs and all my neighbors have sawed-offs for protection, I thought my pitbull/boxer mix and my bike locks would be enough but maybe I should get one too! “Granny”, the lady that lives behind me pulled hers out at the gas station the other day… she raised some pulses! I bet the picture of granny’s sexy granddaughter raises a few pulses, right? 😯

C’mon, let’s get a ‘Cuda calendar going, that sweet thing straddled over my A2L, sexy navel showing! 😮

    Happy New Year!

    Hey ctk,

Every Topline and Cook Brothers crank that I’ve had has required some “massaging” of the Chainrings to not have chain rub. Some have had bent spider issues and other have had issues with the square tapers not being exact so it seats off center on the b.b. spindle.

    What’s the issue?

Are you close or is it extreme?

If you are close and you can seat the cranks snugly on the b.b., I say get a good quality (large) crescent wrench, tighten the wrench on your chainring and start bending it back opposite of the “rub” points. Yes, you are bending a perfectly good chainring but if your tapers or spider are messed up, this is the only way to salvage the crank. I had to do this recently with my Cook Brothers crank. The Cooks are on my Smorgasbord, you can see them on the “Off-Topic Chat” thread on the index page, I start a thread for what others bikes you ride when not riding your ‘Cuda. That Smor hardtail took me 8 or 9 months to pice together, it was something else every step of the way! I feel your frustration but hang in there, it’ll be so worth it!

    Good luck!

Here is his posting on MTBR.com, that’s where I read about it. What a shame

    ctk- Check the link:

    (scroll down towards the bottom)

The White Bros SC70UL may go on my gold/white A2L, and I just finished building my baby with a White Bros XC-4 air fork. My buddy Pete was the art director at White Bros when they were still in Yorba Linda, CA., he did all the decals and illustrations for the catalogs and manuals. I was fortunate enough to have my forks rebuilt by the suspension tech at W.B. a few times for free, it might take a few days but it was so worth it! Now, I’d have to send it to Colorado, it would cost for labor plus parts and $25 shipping each way (ouch!). So, I pray they never blow a seal or worse!

I did see that… it made me sick to my stomach! So much high-end vintage and rare stuff, awesome collection for sure. Here’s what gets me, he locks them up in a common use basement, WTF?!!! I’m sorry, that’s just plain stupid! I feel for the guy but you might as well invite the thief in for a snack! If he couldn’t fit his collection in his townhome or apartment, then his collection is too large or get a secure storage unit. I do hope he has good luck in recovering his bikes, he should, some of those frames and a lot of those parts were mighty rare.
