    Niika,

I thought I’d get a rise out of you with my final question for Manbeer, just for laughs! 😆 Gotta give the newbie a little ribbing! ;)

I hope you get it and love it!

    Manbeer,

Was this bike your actual first Barracuda? If so, I’ve got a couple of questions for you. Once you’ve had a better look at the bike, can you tell me if those are the canti brakes calipers you installed? If so, what brand are they? I can’t get a good look at them from the pictures but they look like my old set of anodized Graftons. If they are Graftons, they’re easily worth half the asking price or more! Also, did you put the Scott fork on the ‘Cuda? I always loves those forks! Great design, easily serviced, and looked cooler than all others! I’ve enjoyed following ctk’s restoration of his A2X in the resto forum, I was a bit envious when he posted the pics of his NOS Scott with replacement internals to boot. Even viewing it on your phone you called, you called it, the stem is horrible and has yo go!

You sure you’re going to let first first ‘Cuda get away again?

    For real?

Manbeer and myself are the only two ‘Cudaheads who will admit to owning a road bike?

C’mon, there’s gotta be more of you on here that ride road bikes… you don’t have to admit to shaving your legs or wearin’ spandex 😆 We’re all family!

    Hey Mix,

That’s a bust, man! I’ve pulled the same move on that slime in a creek with my nephew in Washington.

Just to be safe, pull the seat post out and hang it tires up, then hit it again with spray lube. You don’t want any water sitting in those skinny chain stays!

    Good luck!

Thank you for not using your high-powered telephoto lens, too many dudes in the pool… no gracious amigo! :?

Careful what “lovely bodies” you choose to capture with your “ARTistic side” as your little lady at home might let the air outta’ your tires! ;)

    Peace,

p.s. Try this one when you get “BUST’d”… You were capturing the essence of the tranquil pool 🙄

Welcome Bo, glad to have you!

This is the place for any and all things ‘Cuda. I’ve enjoyed seeing (and drooling over) the pics of your A2T on here and MTBR, I had never seen one before so thanks for the contribution. Mark, the owner of the Eric Carter Barracuda that’s posted on the MTBR thread, he started this great site and we’re all glad that he did!!! Jump in and start posting, this is a friendly place, no big ego trips to deal with… just ‘Cuda love!

Another Texan… Mixalive is in Austin, Bo is in Dallas (right?), anyone else on here from Texas too?

    All the best,

Cool, thumbs up to another beer!

I still can’t remember where I left my bike… thankfully Mixalive’s yellow bike taxi service got me home safe and sound!

    Cheers!

p.s. I’m thinking of bringing this sweet ride to Mix’s home for his SXSW ‘Cuda BBQ, get your cups ready!

Niika, you nailed it! This place is full of nice people that are faithful in their love of Barracuda bikes! I just posted in another forum about how this “new” revived ‘Cuda site is great… much closer group of people that actively post… it’s got a nice (Barracuda) family vibe! There are other cycling sites that have been really helpful and other that are garbage, but when it comes to these “vintage” bikes, some people get pretty full of themselves. I’m not sure if it’s because they have an amazing stable of high end bikes, they knowledge about the builders and period correct parts, or simply ego getting in the way. No thanks! I’m very happy to hang right here with my ‘Cuda friends!

It’s a good thing that thread wasn’t listed in the VRC, his “offers” statement would have gotten the whole thread trash canned… some of those guys are such pains in the arse!!! When this site went down before, I was forced to put up with attitudes of the VRC in hopes of seeing something ‘Cuda related. *gag*

So glad Mark got the site rolling again! Thank you Mark!!! I think it’s better than before, smaller membership but more activity on the board and just a better ‘Cuda family feel.

    Cheers!

According to Bikepedia, the only year that the A2R came with Shimano Exage was 1993. It looks like we got an early one on the cheap!

You’re a gracious individual, offering Mix(alive) a kind word proves your character, and I’m glad to have you on the forum. I promise you, we’ll find you a ‘Cuda that’s just to your liking!

    Keep positive!

    Hey Mix,

Congrats man, that’s cool and I’m stoked for you! I thought so, when you pressed me on the restoration forum if I had any Manitou forks for trade. I was going to PM you later, I posted in the resto forum, but yes I have one… it’s destiny… it’s a Manitou “COMP” also!

Mix, you’ll love that frame! MMMMMMMM… Tange Ultimate!!! My Smorgasbord is Reynolds 853, very similar to Ultimate tubing. The bike will ride like a dream! I know you’ll treat it with respect but it’ll still get used in the dirt, I hate trophy queens!

Again, congrats, it couldn’t have gone to be better guy!

    Best regards,

    -DON-

p.s Now we have to bag into your home for SXSW, maybe I could take the misses car for a beer run?!!! Tell me again where you lost your yellow bike but found your hat?

    Hey Mix,

I have a 1″ threaded Manitou 2 with the “hard/hard” spring replacement, so it is basically rigid. Obviously, that won’t help you but if I had that dented Manitou fork that was on the ‘Cuda Comp we were all watching on Ebay, I would “hard/hard” spring it and run it as a rigid on a singlespeed. Answer made some of the sweetest BMX forks ever, my favorite fork was the Answer Pro Forx, pro all the way (even if I wasn’t 8-) ). I’ll attach a pic of the Answer Pro Forx and my Answer Manitou 2 fork. Doing that conversion is a great way to salvage and continue to use a great CNC’d fork, Easton 9 (9000 series) aluminum is too nice to junk!
(I’m only writing this in hopes that whoever won the ‘Cuda Comp on EBAY does not trash the Manitou fork.)

I also have a Manitou Comp that is original and funtional because the ’92 GT Timberline belonged to my brother-in-law and he only road it to college. Kinda sad actually, he bought a nice Japanese made GT, upgraded to the $400.00 Manitou Comp fork and it never saw a dusty trail. Oh well, his deal. The fork is 1 1/8th threaded so it be be perfect for an early ‘Cuda.

Let me know if you need it.

    Peace’fo’real,

    -DON-

p.s. I’m in the process of turning his GT Timberline into a dirt drop (bar) bike ala King Johnny T., my hero!!! That’s why I need your rigid fork… it’ll look just as beefy as J.T.’s Yeti FRO fork! I’m getting happy!!!

Thanks Cuda! I appreciate the high-5! No, I didn’t bid on the bike, so I didn’t set the closing amount. I’ve spent enough time around these bikes, not ‘Cudas per se , but glory bikes from a cool time long gone… have you seen the price these days of a quality, American made, steel frame? It would blow your mind and turn your wallet inside out! 😥 You’d be lucky to find a local builder that could/would build you a frame out of Tange Ultimate for under a $1,000.00! 😮 My Reynolds 853 (very similar to Tange Ultimate) Smorgasbord frame came from a small builder in PA, in 1998 it cost $1,000.00 for the frame only, no extras and definitely no fork! I’ve looked at having a fork made by Ind. Fab. (IF) and a few other builders, it’s generally around $450.00 to $600.00 for a rigid steel fork. 😯 Madness!!! So, I can see why a 3 pound steel race frame like a Comp could go for $300.00+ with shipping, that’s a bargain!
