Sorry Schweety-I was calling out to Mark, the creator of this site, he has a computer background so I’m guessing that he owns or has access to a slide scanner. For what it’s worth, those slides sound like a nice bit of rare ‘Cuda treasure!!! Thanks for sharing!

Yep… that one has been on Craigslist for some time, it’s been popping up in my searches. Here’s a link:http://houston.craigslist.org/bik/2566723304.html
Based on the color and the parts package, it’s definitely a 1994, you can find all the specs from the catalog with a stock photo in the “BIKES” section at the top of the page. I’d offer the guy $200.00, only because it’s not faded nor beaten up (plus it looks all stock and doesn’t look to have seen much use). It needs new derailleurs, LX minimum or XT is better, but it looks like a good snag for a fair price. The seller was asking $299.00 plus $65.00 shipping… it’ll never sell at that price. Get in contact with him, tell him you have $200.00 in hand and you’re ready to roll, he’s likely ready to unload the bike.
Best ‘o’ luck ! ! !

p.s. I contacted a guy through RetroBike, he’s in CT., and he was trying to sell his A2Limited and was taking any reasonable offer. I’ll let you know if and when he gets back to me and I’ll give you and A2L status update. Peace.

Mark,Those slides must be of some interest to you… do you have (or access to) a slide scanner? Those slides would make for some great historical referencing!

Hey Micah-Welcome! I have an A2L and I too love the bike! Sorry to hear about your misfortune… that’s a desperate fool that’ll jack a bike off the third floor! F*ckin’ bastards!!! Here, try this link, it’s how I find ’em all about Craigslist:

I count about a dozen ‘Cudas after peepin’ the first 3 pages
Good luck!!!

Sorry, I’d prefer to have the A2T pictured above (which is still available as of 9/27/11) and take my family on a mountain bike vacation to some great mountain destination. That said, I don’t have the spare coin to consider a custom frame. Plus, my wife already thinks I have too many bikes in the garage (or house)… she’d brutalize my skull if I ever dropped that kind of dough on another bike… unless it was for her… like her Simonetti race bike!I’ll enjoy your custom bikes vicariously and avoid the body trauma!!!

Welcome Cudalover,Your Manitou Comp has elastomers inside, with most Manitou forks from that vintage, the elastomers break down and turn to goop inside the fork legs. Both Mixalive (check the MEMBERS section if you want to PM him) and myself have rebuilt our early Manitou forks with springs from Wings Suspension in SoCal (Orange, CA I think). He also sells on Ebay from time to time. I just bought the double spring kit but I think Mixalive bought the spring kit that has the adjustability. Mixalive is the precision king when it comes to restoration, you may want to ask him about his Manitou rebuild. Here’s a link to Wings:
http://wings-suspension.com/index.html
The Manitou Comp was only made one year (1994) and cost $400.00. Just my opinion but I’d be stoked to have a Manitou Comp over a Rock Shox Quadra (or a Mag 21 or anything else R.S. made from that era). The Answer Manitou forks were superior to all others at that time… the CNC work was top, the Easton aluminum was the best, and being they were milled instead of cast you could replace damaged legs or crowns without having to junk your whole fork. Ebay almost always has replacement crowns to go from 1″ to 1 1/8th” or from threaded to threadless.
I just finished rebuilding my Comp fork, it used to be on my ’92 GT, now it’s on my ’91 Koga-Miyata that I’m rebuilding. You can see the bike at my Marketplace listing:
I gave up trying to find any purple ano parts, it was either used and faded or NOS and cost a fortune. So, the rigid purple fork got yanked and the Comp was a nice upgrade and still period correct for the purists out there. I gave up trying to go period correct, much for the same reason as the purple bits… used garbage or NOS wallet busters! Instead I’m running the yellow Magura “Race-Line” hydraulic brakes, they aren’t period but they too are a nice upgrade over cantilever… plus the yellow matches so nicely!!! 🙄
Good luck!

Cool bike!I had my A2L set up as a single speed for some time and loved it (it was great as a 1×9 too)! I vowed I’d go back to single speed after I built up a new rear wheel with a White Industries ENO hub. I was never totally satisfied with the chain tension. I was hoping for the “magic gearing” set up because I don’t care for chain tensioners, I got really close but the ENO would have solved it. I’ll pick one up soon because I miss the minimal quality of a single speed!
Hey Sammac, what brake levers are you running on that v-brake in the rear? Is it a “REAL” CNC lever? Also, is the a mechanical or hydra disc brake up front? Nice choice on the cranks too!

Ha-Ha… “Stay chubby my friends.” 😆Clever Sith, very clever!!! That is some of the best bit of appropriate XX product plugging… it’s a shame they didn’t run that ad campaign back then, these bikes deserved some strong advertising!

Welcome Sammac-Nice to hear about your history with these great bikes. Durango riding is about as good as it gets! I’m fortunate to have made a number of pilgrimages to those peaks… I wish I would have made more. Once pee-wee gets big enough to hang on the trails, I’m going back and taking the family, they need to see the beauty of Durango. Anyway, welcome aboard… what took you so long? (Just playin’
)Peace,

Man, that’s weak… the government has a hand on your bottles of beer!!! Here is a link to the item on the Costco website, it describes each ale:http://www.shop.costco.com/en/In-The-Warehouse/Beer-Wine-Spirits.aspx
Here too is a link to the Beer Fathers website, they add some background and reviews to the Costco ales. However, those linked and reviewed differ from what is available on the West Coast, maybe the reviews match what is available on the East Coast. It makes for good reading if you East Coast Cudaheads are familiar with FX Matt Brewing Company, that’s who is behind the brewing in your area.

Hey, at least his choice of sudz is a proper one with flavor and character! I have a theory that people drink a beer or cocktail that mirrors their personality. I worked at a bar in my 20’s, so many lame dudes drinking Coors Light! They always wondered why the “fun” girls drank NewCastle (or whatever)… they also wondered why those same girls were never interested in having a conversation!!! 😆I’ll start this off… my beer pick for the Cudaheads is to get yourself over to Costco, pick up a 24 pack of Costco label Signature Ales. Super tasty selection of 4 different 6 packs from a microbrewery in San Jose, CA. To top it off… it’s a bargain at $18.00! Yes, you read correctly… $18.00 for 24 delicious brews… a mere 75 cents per beer!!!

Enjoy!!!

vcp66 wrote, “These shots were done right after a ride with my son so bike is a little dirty.”Ha! Right on!!! That’s my bicycle conceptual/contextual mantra… I don’t trust a road bike that is dirty and I don’t trust a mountain bike that is clean!
Man, that’s where it’s at! I’m stoked for you that you dirtied up a bike with you son! How cool is that?!!!

Damn… XTR with CBR is a tasty pairing ! ! !Bless you for going with that Cook Brothers Racing crank, as if the XTR group was enough, you had to pull in the slick vintage cranks to “cherry” the top and complete one sweet build!
