Hey Sith-I hope you don’t mind me piggybackin’ your thread for my BMX build… part of it is the same deal, I recall you mentioning one day junior may be rippin’ it up. I built this bike for my daughter, she’s just about there, so I figured I’d get to buildin’ her a race bike. Mine is in no way (anywhere) as sweet as your PK, so I figure my bike isn’t taking anything away from yours (but I’m still proud of the build). My daughter can’t wait to rip around on it!!! π
I picked this bike up recently for practically nothing… I still can’t believe my luck! I’ve wanted a “Pistol Pete” signature bike ever since I saw him take the holeshot and go on to win the event. I’ve owned a few Parkpre mountain bikes over the years but the Team Image BMX always eluded me; I’d all but given up on ever finding one! Then Craigslist comes through… local, low use,and super cheap!!! The build as pictured in the 4th image is as I bought it, I’ve made significant changes, now it’s race ready and super quick! Here are the specs as built:
Parkpre “Pistol Pete” Loncaravich Signature frame
FSA carbon fiber cranks
FSA 32T chainring
Truvativ American to Euro bottom bracket converter
Shimano XT bottom bracket
Shimano “oval link” (CN-NX01) 1/8th single speed chain
SR Racing “old school” pedals
Titec seatpost (with stock seat collar clamp)
WTB SST seat
Fusion 6 bolt stem
Gary Fisher chromed 4130 bars
Magura Evolution hydraulic brake
Landing Gear chromed 4130 forks
ODI Ruffian lock-on grips
Shimano Dura Ace 16T freewheel
NOS Primo Hubs
NOS Araya Japan 20×1.75 double-walled box rims
Maxxis Holy Roller tires (1.75″ & 1.95″)- November 26, 2011 at 3:05 am

Yeah, I saw those prices being asked… that’s pure madness!!! I have no idea what the seller is thinking trying to fetch those prices, especially with the economy what it is. Foolishness!- October 24, 2011 at 12:53 am

Welcome Dave! That’s a bummer that your XX frame got some stress cracks… that said, I think it’s really cool you had enough love for your ‘Cuda to get the repairs taken care of and it’s still hitting the trails! You have to check out Mixalive’s repair on his XX Team bike… it’s nothing short of amazing!!! Top notch effort by Mix. I’m almost looking forward to riding my A2L hard enough that it too develops a stress crack, just so I can send it to Mix for a repair job!

Anyway, welcome to the site… we all have Mark, the site builder and chief historian, to thank for all this goodness! Three cheers for The Grand Poobah!!!

Hey-Check out this one I posted in the Marketplace, I know Mixalive was looking for a 12″ frame, I think this is a 12″ frame… the ad on Craigslist has expired but all the info plus a picture is in the posting.
It’s obviously not original but the price is more than fair, possibly you could sell the unwanted parts while you put the build right.
Good luck!

p.s. Hey Mix… did you ever inquire about this one? Any info to share?

That would have been ’95 or ’96 if I’m not mistaken. The Barraucuda bike looked like it was an Intense M1 that was rebadged with the Barracuda branding. The M1 hit the trails in 1994 and was the bike to beat almost immediately. Foes and Mountain Cycle quickly had models that were very similar in design. By the end of ’95/’96 you saw a lot of downhill rigs running the Hanebrink fork, nobody else had a reliable 7″ and 9″ travel fork other than the big H. I believe the picture I included was from the ’96 Norba Downhill Championship.****************************************
I tried to upload a picture I have of an Intense M1 with a Hanebrink fork but it won’t post, instead this message pops up:
Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached.
So Mark, do we need to delete our old post? Please advise and we’ll make it happen. Thanks!

I agree with Mix, he’s right for sure, at 5’11” the 16″ frame would be better suited. Just me, ‘cuz I want a deal, I wouldn’t pay more than $200.00 for that bike. It looks to be in nice shape but you should figure to spend an additional $60.00 ($30.00 parts w/$30.00 labor) on new brake cables, new shift cables, a new chain, and a minor tune up just to get the bike trail worthy. I gotta know the drivetrain is sound… nothing worse than the walk back!- October 9, 2011 at 4:29 am

Good eye Mixalive!I never noticed that before… I had to run out and check out my ’93, sure enough, same large “TREES” sticker. Mark is the expert, any light to shed on Mix’s discovery?
Hey Mix, on a different note, did you ever do anything with that compressed fork on your A2R. I don’t recall if you were going to rebuild it, scrap it, or run it compressed. If it’s still compressed, I might be interested in taking it off your hands for another street project I’m gathering for.
Peace,

Hey Micah,Just to be sure, since you’re talking about a 19″ frame vs. a 16″ frame, are you around 6′ tall with a 32″+ inseam? That’s about the minimum you’d need to be on that 19″ bike, that was the largest frame Barracuda made in 1994.
Oh yeah, one other thing… these bikes are addictive! You’re going to find Cudas popping up for $80.00… maybe $125.00 and you’ll feel compelled to “save” the poor thing! Take my good brother Mixalive, he came to this site with one Barracuda to his name… now, look at this postings and you’ll see he is up to 4 in the stable. All added to the collection in about a year (and a damn fine collection it is too
). I had 3 but I’m down to 1 presently and I truly regret selling off my other 2, however, I was up to 32 bikes when gave up my workshop (aka “The Shed”) in an industrial complex. There was no way in hell my sweet wife was going to stand for all those bikes at the house! Now, I have 10 and she (I mean we π ) have an understanding “old” bike out before a “new” bikes comes in. Gotta keep a happy home!!!Good luck whichever one you score but don’t say you weren’t warned about the desire to own more and more!

I just checked out the listing on the Austin Craigslist… That’s a 19″ 1994 A2E, check the specs in the “BIKES” section at the top of the page, everything looks right minus the upgrades. The bike has been “played” with, the XT shifters and the Ringle “Peace Sign” cable hangers are certainly upgrades! Also, it looks like someone got a Dos Equis decal kit and went nuts… (see for yourself)http://austin.craigslist.org/bik/2620893731.html
The A2E is in the correct location, the XX is not…
The Prestige sticker is correct but the “TREES” is correct but poorly placed off center…
I’ve never seen a Barracuda decal set for sale, never, I’ve searched for a few years. Yes, I know people could redo them but the Dos Equis decals look authentic… it just seems like some owner along the way came up on a decal set and went for it.
I’m curious what happened to the SR suspension fork? Personally, I think the rigid fork is an upgrade over the stock SR “boat anchor” (aka pogo stick) that was probably bottomed out. Thinking about it, this looks like a bike that someone who worked at a bike shop (that sold Barracudas) might have pieced together… that might explained a spare rigid fork and a “Team” decal set. I’d like to have those Ringle cable hangers, those might fetch $50.00 for the pair! It looks like a good bike for the price being asked… not sure if Charlie at Brazos Trading Co. is going to be flexible on the price.
Hey Mix… do you have any free time to check it out for Micah? I know it’s too big for you, so you won’t be adding it to your stable.
