That poor Cuda… it’s suffering from the worst case of “Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) bar ends” I have ever seen! This is what happens when sports fans blend their sporting interests… weird bastard creations!!! Just sad…- July 26, 2012 at 8:48 pm

I will only address one of my issues and it speaks to character…Manbeer advertised a Cuda garage sale, I PM’ed him and worked out a deal for some parts, money was sent via Paypal, and he claimed to have mailed them. Some time went by and I never received my package. I questioned him, he apologized for the oversight and promised it was on the way. Again, no deliveries and I never heard from Chris “Manbeer” ever again. I sent multiple messages via this site and through Retrobike with no response.
So, “Manbeer” is synonymous with sneakiness, all things crooked, and/or lacking any character. That’s just my experience but I’m not alone, hence why “Manbeerin'” has a universal joke to it now. No inside joke, just Cudaheads who were done wrong by a snake!
Anyone else want to contribute?

I had a Miyata race bike from that same vintage, same color scheme and almost the exact colors, but those wacky avant-garde Japanese designers got cute with the name… salmon and obsidian. My buddy that I raced with for a few seasons was 6’7″, he had a custom Nishiki that was straight up bubblegum pink. He took a lot ribbing for the color but he was so fast that most were talking out of their arse soon enough!- July 25, 2012 at 1:17 pm

The handling is not changed much because back in ’88 when Richard Cunningham designed these Nishiki frames with the elevated chainstays, patterned after his Mantis frames (mmm… Mantis), he gave the headtube a steep angle. That steep headtube takes up most if any effect that the longer rake adds to the geometry. Also, these bikes were known for their tight “race” geomtry, the short chainstays really keep the bike well balanced. Really, that’s what is comes down to for me, I don’t like the feel of a 29’er bike, the rear end feels like it floats or drifts in the turns. The 26″ rear wheel of a 96er/69er does away with that “pillowy” feel but you still keep the roll over anything attitude with the 29″ front.- July 25, 2012 at 5:22 am

C’mon, it’s got to stay up just long enough, what if Sithlord happened to be on the board that day? He lives for that stuff! (Sith, you there?) Just another example of a moderator needing a moderator… I warned you about having a knucklehead like me mod’ing this board! Good thing the Cudaheads still have the “Modfather” brother Mixalive! He’s not full of B.S. like I am…

Hooray! It’s finally done… only took 3 ridiculously long months to finish this thing!
I don’t want to take up anymore board space, so here is a link to Velospace, all specs and pics are covered. This is a super fun bike and I would push any of you to recycle one of your 26″ bikes and build a 96’er/69’er!

There is no doubt that your Comp is a 1995, all the decals are a match, and even the crappy Barracuda paint job is showing the proper wear for a bike that’s been ridden. Follow this link to Manbeer’s collection, Manbeer 🙄 , the first couple of images are nice large pics of his ’95 Comp. It’s exactly like your, no question, end of story.viewtopic.php?f=11&t=137&hilit=manbeer+comp&start=0
Don’t paint it, just build and enjoy it! Check the top and lower end of the head tube for hairline cranks and don’t forget the check the seat clamp area too.
I’m not surprised you bought the frame in that state when it was a year old… everybody I know got a new frame every year or two and you simply yanked all your XT or XTR bits and left the rest on the old frame. The price you paid sounds like a good price for an American (possibly Yeti) made frame. It’s made it this far, get it built, and enjoy it… soon it’ll be 20 years old and higher end frames don’t pop up much anymore.
Good luck!

Welcome! You are the proud owner of a ’95 Comp, check yours against the catalog image provided in the “Bikes” section at the top of the page. The ’94 Comp was steel and a different color.
That’s awesome to have picked up a higher end Cuda so early in the game! Do you recall what you paid for it? How many years did you ride the Comp before it became wall art? Are you planning to rebuild it? I know at least have the guys on here would be happy to rebuild it for you… it’s getting your bike back home that might pose a problem!

Peace,

Curses! The Grand Poobah pulled rank… I knew I was treading on thin ice bringing back that picture of you with the crocheted cozy on your head! I didn’t think I’d be 86’ed from the Cuda board…Mark is drunk with power… you’re on your own Mixalive!
Over and out!
