Built a… Triumph 650 hardtail chopper when i was a teenager.

Sweet Jesus (pronounced “Hey-Zeus”) brother Mix that is one gorgeous chop!!!

I know 20 guys, myself included, that would give their left nut for a bike like that… love it!

Thanks for sharing the photo, it’s awesome, deep down you just know the f*ck the world moments you had while enjoying some throttle therapy on that killer bike!

    Cheers,

p.s. I’d have to pass on the denim flares, I’d be afraid that the bell bottoms would get sucked into the chain!

That’s a slick project Mix, looking forward to some photo updates!

Those RX, FZ, and FZR bikes were a blast to ride at the time, torquey as all get out, I rode a blacked out FZR with yellow accents for a couple years. It was my canyon killer, lively at the throttle and easy to flick around, I’m thinking I should start looking for a project build.

Here is a cool TT build that pulled the same front end as yours, plenty of photos and good description of the build. Check it out:

Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration!

p.s. Do you remember the “Thumpers” that came out in the mid to late 1980’s? I always wanted to customize a SRX400 or the bigger brother SRX600. A single monster piston with dual carbs for high and low end with a 5 speed gearbox, basically came right from the track. They made cool cafe and bobber bikes too… Vinny, you should look into building one!

Maybe we could expand it to include Barracuda and something else?

Nice bike… sort of spendy for my wallet!

Always a treat to see your 3 little letters grace this board… not too many “old timers” from the first generation ‘Cuda site before the catastrophic loss.

    Cheers,

    -D-

p.s. Any updated photos of your cutie-bugs to share?

My angel turned 10 a couple weeks back and treated herself to a fractured ankle and 6 weeks in a cast!

    Awesome, great job.

    MUST GET MINE BUILT!

    Hey ctk-

Thanks for posting, it’s been a long time my good man!

So what of it? What’s the status of your ‘Cuda? Please don’t tell me you had 5 more adorable children (if so, congrats brother!) and the ‘Cuda is in permanent limbo!

C’mon man, give us an update, we could use some “old blood” to pump some life back into this forum!

Always a pleasure and best regards,

    LOL… some great pics there

Those might be great photos if you’ve never lived ’em… after hundreds of stink eyes and countless nights in the bicycle dog house… those photos have a sting to ’em (if you know what I mean). Ha-ha-ha…

Cool thing you found this site, I dig your story, the fact your ‘Cuda roots go back 20 years and you’re still brand loyal after all these years. Having built a number of commuters, I’d be interested to see how you’ve set up your A2R. Please post up some photos when you get a chance, thanks.

Welcome, welcome from SoCal, glad to have you along!

p.s. Oh yeah, vpc66 said Derek is nuts but in reality you gotta watch out for your fellow Floridian if you ever plan an organized Barracuda ride… he loves his ‘Cuda so much he’ll hump your leg!!!

Right on… can never have too much print material, looking forward to seeing the ‘Cuda booty!

Hey Mark, is the A2Limited in the ’93 catalog? One guy on Mtbr told me the A2L wasn’t in any catalogs. Can you set the record straight? Maybe a photo or the catalog description, that would be great!

    Thanks Grand Poobah!

All the better to see your vintage bits with, deary!

I’ve given up trying to mess with the photos on this site, if it takes mine as they are… great! If not, screw it, I’m not spending any extra time only to get them rejected a second time!

If it’s an older shop, they should have plenty of older metal parts. Newer shops are a bit of a let down in my opinion as everything they tend to have in their mechanics’ “spares” bin is carbon safe which means no metal.

As for my build, I almost wish I didn’t like the look of the bike so much, I sort of painted myself into a corner and now my bar options are really limited. Oh well, I can always change it… as I’m chronically prone to do.

Thanks again for pointing me in that direction!

    Peace,

That’s about the amount of space I needed to shim the STI levers (23.8mm) I ran with the Soma Sparrow handlebars (22.2mm)… 1.6mm which converts to 1/16th of an inch. They sell shims for this exact size, call it roughly 1/8th inch you need to take up without needed to gorilla the seat clamp into submission. Here is a link to a set I bought, I preferred these because they were knurled as opposed to simple being smooth metal. A little trial and error to figure out whether you’ll need to run 2 or 3 shims is no matter since you receive 4 shims in the package. This should work nicely and save your wallet, here is the link:

    http://www.lowbrowcustoms.com/p300/buy/m-c-parts/bars-risers-amp-controls/risers/british-standard-handlebar-shims-reducers-run-7-8-inch-handlebars-with-1-inch-risers-or-p-clamps-/

Oh, I found the bars you suggested, these would be perfectly (coincidently would require me running the same shim above) and the price was reasonable… however, given the size of the bars, the shipping cost more than the damn bars!!! Check out the link:`

Hopefully I can find the same bars locally. Sick’n”Twisted Customs near me, the guys that make the full size fenders, sell something like it but not exactly same. Thanks again for the suggestion!
