    I finally opted to lacquer thinner to clean out to goo on the inner tubing walls. That stuff is caustic and difficult to work with. But cuts the goo pretty quick. Yes, neo, I took your advice and installed the heavy springs. Something was telling me that a spring in one side and a dampener in the other might cause an upset. Anyway, all the elastomers were goo, which meant I had to come up with something to replace the rebound and a third stage elastomer. I am experimenting with 1/2″ ID reinforced rubber heater hose. It seems to be working great at the moment but will tear into it in a month or so to see if it is surviving. Here is a photo. Notice I have tons more travel than stock.

    I finished up the conversion today. Took foreeeeeeever to clean all the elastomers and goop out. I installed the Wings Dual linear springs and modified the travel. I am getting about 55mm of travel while keeping the fork boots. I can help out if anyone wants to know more details.

    I have the 18.5″ 12 gauge Walmart Special purchased in 1998, blued with composite stock and heat shield. I have a pistol grip on it at the moment but came with a shoulder stock. I am thinking about having it parkerized.
    I alternate-load with bird-buck-bird-buck.

    I talked to the owner, Trish last week and this bike is still available. The only thing is she doesn’t use Paypal and only willing to take it to a mail place that will box and ship for about $150.. She is in South Denver for anyone who can just drive over and pick it up. It appears to be a 93 as a magnet will stick to the frame, making it chromo. I believe it is 14″ A2M chromo.

    I had been riding GT’s during the 90’s and always wanted a Schwinn as they were the “got to have” bikes when I was growing up in the 60-70’s. I happened on this 99 Schwinn GSX Mesa at a pawn shop in Bryan, TX while traveling to East Texas. I think I paid $200 for it in 2000. It was like new, 14″ aluminum frame with a RockShock. I have beat this bike up pretty good and still works great. Not as cool as my Barracuda A2M though..

    Since I got all motivated to show off my A2M yesterday on this forum, I decided to clean it up and ride it today. :D

    The good: the good old nimble Barracuda. 8-)
    The bad: the shift mechanism on the bar wouldn’t let me go to 3, 2, or 1 and the Manitou bottomed out and stayed there. 🙄

    I guess I need to do some maintenance.
