OK, I’ll break out my XX-Barracuda materials from the first year Dos Equis sponsored the team. I’ve moved 3 times since joining the forum and just hadn’t got around to scanning the materials.

UPDATE – The original owner measured this frame using “center of BB to the tip of the seat tube”, so it’s really a 16″ instead of the advertised 18″. Good news for me because it’s now my riding size frame…. bad news for anyone who might have been able to use an 18″ frame…. sorry… Hergules

OK.. so I’m really late responding to this question… (sorry I missed it), but yes this was a slightly earlier jersey, probably late 92 when Barracuda was just getting off the ground. Aerospoke was an early sponsor. I only recall them being in the mix in very early 93. I got a comp’ set of their wheels from Barracuda when we (Dos Equis) signed on to sponsor the team, but I never saw anything about Aerospoke after that.

Whoa! Sorry vpc66….. Just realized I left you hanging on the A2Limited back in July. Very uncool of me (of course just saying “uncool” is uncool unless you’re over 50… which I am). Anyway, my apologies – I dropped off the face of the earth for a few months after I quit my job in PA, sold our house, moved 3 times, and started a new job in VA. Just reentering the cycling community now..

As it turns out, while packing for the last move, my daughter saw and commandeered my A2L and the A2R went to VA-Tech with my son. So I’m down to my A2X for personal use.

Sorry again for the false alarm and subsequent delay in responding. Hopefully I can make amends sometime in the future.

I don’t have the old BB… so I can only measure the shell.
Thanks for the info – I’ll try a 110 and 113 and see what kind of chain line I get.

    Nice trip Bones!
I hope I’m lucky enough to visit the Barracuda museum one of these days (aka Durango). BTW, the difference in the posters was the year. The team colors were green/orange in 93 and they switched to the blue/yellow color palette in 94-95.

Yes, I’ll likely go with the Control Tech stem & bar ends. I’ve seen good ones on ebay for $30-$40. Zooka’s are hard to come by at a reasonable price plus I had Zooka stem back in the day and experienced a few failures… I’m more safety conscious these days (I heal slower at my age), so if I’m going to ride the bike (rather than hang it on the wall), I’d like to have something that has a good track record.

I connected with Frank about a year ago . He was fairly sure that he had built those frames. Chris did a lot of specialty work as he mentioned. But all of those pre dos Equis frames were likely built byfrank while he was still at Yeti.

I can’t wait to ride this again. it was my fav in to 90’s. i really just need to find a nice 120mm stem… I have just about everything else I need.

Yes, thanks for the clue Mark. I found the faint stamp on the dropout… I missed it the first time I looked as the powder coat paint job almost covers it.

    Thanks,
I’ll start scanning stuff this week. I have two x 3″ binders full of historical material including early design sketches, photos, press releases, newsletters, etc… Would be great to get the important stuff archived on the website.

Here’s a few photos from the 1993 Press Kit (notice while the bikes had arrived, all of the new XX Team Jerseys still weren’t there for the photo shoot:

    Thanks.
Sorry I haven’t posted very much (OK at all) over the past few years, but I just found my bin of old Dos Equis-Barracuda materials. Probably a week’s worth of scanning just on the printed materials alone, but that should add a lot to the historical content of the site from 1992 & 1993. Everything from the original sponsorship agreement, media plans, Dealer Marketing & Support Binders, color catalogs, team artwork, photos, etc…

I’ve reached out to Mark to figure out the best way to get stuff uploaded to the site without overwhelming the forum with posts. Not sure if my email made it to Mark so hopefully the admin/moderator(s) will contact me to figure out the easiest way to transfer some of the materials to the website

Hey, BTW what’s a guy gotta do to get the “newbie” label upgraded on my ID?

I took most of the photos for the team so unfortunately there are very few pics of me and my bikes from the 90’s. This was the best handling bike I ever rode. I’ve been told the frame is basically an A2X Team frame. Cool that people could buy the same frame that team would ride. I think I still have the receipt somewhere… I believe it was $425 for each frame for our junior team (a steep discount even back then). Our shop sold us everything at cost so the teens on our team were racing some pretty sweet bikes… I built mine up with XTR 900 8spd, nuke proof hubs, titec ti handlebar and manitou fork.

Cool project you got going there. Great you get to share it with your daughter.
