@vpc66 wrote:Cheap bikes use a simple bolt and nut
Yea, but this wasn’t a cheap bike when new!
Looks like a 1/4″ x 1.5″ bolt will do the trick. Stainless Allen head with a nylock nut is what I’ll aim for.

@neo_pop_71 wrote:My seatpost was butchered by the previous owner, I used my micrometer and it measured 29.93mm, so I’m calling it a 29.4 seatpost.
Came across this thread while searching for info about seatposts. While your 29.93mm measurement sounds correct, I’m not so sure about your “rounding” to 29.4. I just cleaned my seatpost and revealed a stamping of 30.0mm along with a date of October 1993.

Digging up this old post as I’m finally getting around to building this into a usable bike. I was thinking I’d want to get a quick-release seatpost clamp, but now that I look at the design, it appears that the only option is to use a simple bolt and nut through the existing brazed-on stays – yes, no, maybe??? Anyone have any close-up pics of the original factory bolt?Might be just as well since the 30mm seatpost is a bit of a rarely-used oddball size. BTW, is 30mm the “official” size? The I.D. of the tube measures out at 29.9mm and the original post at 29.95mm

And to nobody’s surprise, this went unsold. Should I send the seller a note and let him know I got my A2E frame for $10, or would that just be mean?- April 8, 2012 at 3:01 pm

@mixalive wrote:If it were me, I would move on to a better post. A Thomson is much better. To me, the adjustability of the factory post is poor.
But that would be too easy! 😆

With some help from the MTB Forums, it would appear that this is the part I need (or need to fabricate)….- March 15, 2012 at 1:28 am

I don’t really like this post but is original to the bike.
Thanks for the confirm and link. If you get a chance, do you think you might be able to take some close-up pics of the clamp portion of the seatpost? I think I can machine the part I need from some AL round bar stock, but it would be nice to see how it came from the factory.

Thanks for the link – I’m thinking this one doesn’t have quite as many parts as the Cane Creek, but it’s helpful regardless. There aren’t any identifying marks on it so I imagine it’s some no-name cheapie.

Arrived today.Considering that an Aluminum seatpost, bottom bracket, headset, and two Blackburn bottle cages were included, I think I did pretty good.
Anyone know what the original seatpost looked like? This one is one of those paired-bolt types. I’m thinking it could be original as it has “93.10” stamped in it which I’m assuming is October 1993. Anyone else have one like this?
Apparently the 18.5″ frame size was stated in the “old school” way of measuring BB-Ctr of top tube-Ctr. The frame measures 20″ from BB-Ctr to seat tube top. But I think for my purposes that will be fine, as I was figuring to set this up more as a hybrid-like build with 1 3/8″ road tires. I’m 5′ 11″ with a 32″ inseam.
Serial# as indicated above is confirmed.
Now I just need to figure out how I’m going to build this thing out.

@ctk wrote:Are you planning on decals? Stealthy is good but a headtube logo would be cool too.
I hadn’t really thought so far ahead as to decals. Heck, a week ago I had no idea that there had been a bike company called Barracuda! But I like orphans – I own a couple Merkurs.
The basic plan for this frame is for it to get much of the left-over components from my ’95 SuperGo Access Max which cracked about a year ago. Incredibly, I got a full refund on that frame since Performance Bike had acquired SuperGo and extended the lifetime warranty. Several of the components are purple, so I’ll have a purple and black theme going on. Should be different.

Yep, that must be it. He told me it had been powder-coated and the tracking info shows it shipped out of Santa Maria CA.

@mixalive wrote:$10….. What a deal..
To be fair, I think I’d have to include shipping and call it $40.

I hadn’t even noticed from your original post that you listed the S/N – did you get that from the seller? Indeed it does seem to match the sequence from the other S/N’s listed as being a ’94 A2E.
