So anybody have big plans made for this year, trips or builds what ever…..need some lines going on here folks…come on and start writing some post. I have hope to get back to some real riding with my old buddy and a few new ones. Have been thinking about joining the local MTB club so maybe I could get some rides in that way but to tell the truth in a way that scares the hell out of me because I am in such bad shape compared to years back when I was around that group…I know that I will not be able to ride all the time like I did before Wife and Kids so not sure how fast I could build back up if at all but I still want to make a shot at it. Come on and state what is going on in your riding life..we need some noise here folks….STOP lurking and POST !!!!!

Hey gang,The weekend is half over, did you ride?
(guilty feelings boiling up inside you if you didn’t)
Aside from our Barracudas I don’t bring many topics of conversation, I’m not going to chat you up about artwork or graffiti (what is most dear to my heart besides my family), so from time to time I bring up another passion of mine… fighting. No, not the drunken stupidity in the street nor bar (but I have been known to mix it up from time to time against a bully or two), I’m talking about boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts. Last night in Las Vegas an absolute crusher gave a beat down on Cyborg (pictured previously) and won. You could go to Cagefighter on Yahoo and watch the 20 minute slightly impressive but slow at times fight, that’s not my reason for posting, it’s the fact that this young lady hadn’t had a fight in over 3 years and she was still able to handle one of the strongest and most vicious female fighters in history. Jovina “Jo-Jo” Baars (pronounced more like Bosh or the better known Bosch) is only 25 years old with a record of 35-0-3 hold 2 World Championships in Muay Thai/Klickboxing, in a nutshell… no fighter will get in the ring against her! That is insanely awesome to me!!! How incredibly tough do you have to be that no one is willing to take you on? I love it!!! That’s why I’m highlighting Jo-Jo’s achievement, this young lady can be 3 years rusty and still handle The Cyborg, she deserves some attention and praise! The best part is she looks like a sweet college student… maybe one day my little masher, and she is a masher, will follow in Jo-Jo’s footsteps, both are tall, strong, and kick harder than anyone I’ve ever seen for their respective ages! (grinning proud father moment)

You are dead on, if you seen her in a bar or something you would think she was the nerd type, just a plain weak non sporty kind of girl…would be funny to see a guy try to push him self on her…I would get such a laugh.
And the riding today would suck…we had thunder storms rolling over us today !- January 27, 2015 at 5:19 pm
Hey gang,Check it out, it’s been a year since this thread was originally posted, it was all about what you had planned in 2014.
I’m most interested in your bikes of 2014… what did you buy, build, and/or get rid of this past year?
Since it seems appropriate, what bike plans do you have for 2015?
(I’m not getting the ball rolling this time, someone else must post their project, let’s see who is paying attention)
C’mon now… let’s go!!!

Well, I replace the bike my wife called her own with another one ( she still does not ride ) change the chain on the Cuda due to the stretch on the old one and went back to riding real trails with grown ups and lost 20 pounds of fat, built a loaner bike for a buddy or who ever to ride with the gang and this year the Colson will come to life…a build I have wanted to do for sometime in my mind will become real !- January 27, 2015 at 8:55 pm
Right now i want to build a commuter bike, since i sold the one i used till last fall. That was a 2000 Trek 7000 ZX. I bought a ’97 KHS Alite 3000, made of Easton aluminum tubing, with a mixture of parts. A nice Marzocchi Bam 1, and some other good stuff. Since the frame is neat and in more then decent shape, i think is worth a bit of extra love. Another winter project, that i allready finished, it’s a dirtbike(2014 Dartmoor 26Player frame). It seems i’m not getting older…..at least that’s what i think, till i pay the doc a visit.- January 28, 2015 at 3:54 am
Nice bike Zoltan and don’t worry about the not growing up part, safe to say there are a number of us here that fit in the class of grown up kids- January 28, 2015 at 10:01 am

Yeah, that’s for sure!!!
My wife never passes up an opportunity to tell our daughter not to “repeat what your dad just said…” but I figure there’s so much bullsh*t in the world, a little honesty couldn’t hurt, right?
I agree with vpc66, that dirt bike is pretty slick, I’m really digging the single rear hydraulic brake… I know there will be times when you want more brake but those are the precious balls out moments that make you feel alive! Good luck on picking up that ‘Cuda banner and swag from the guy in Germany. You’re the most likely person to get it being it’s already in Europe. Some cool stuff to ad to your ‘Cuda collection, I hope you’re able to make it happen.
Thanks for sharing!

Hey man, what are you trying to pull? Gotta have pictures, you can’t expect us “visual” people to survive on words alone, we need pretty photos too! Don’t be stingy with the lovin’!!!

Drives me nuts with the hit or miss photo on here Don, I started to do pic’s but figured why bother…plus the fact I wrote the post while at work, I don’t have all my bike pic’s on the work computer so the loaner would not be there even if I could post a pic.
Hey Super D , most DJ bikes I have seen run the single brake on the rear, guess they hold to the old BMX standard of a rear brake only. When I was a kid during the early BMX phase that was common and it was a rare sight to see somebody with fronts. You were in the Mother land of the sport during that time, same go for you?P.S…I wrote this at work, try to remember to grab pic’s at home to add

Yeah man, everything was evolving so quickly, it seemed like there was always something new on someone’s bike at the track. Plenty of BMX kids had dads that were machinists or worked in that field in some capacity. All the races I did that Scot “The ‘OM’ King” Breithaupt designed were so technical and steep in places I was always glad I had that front to feather when needed. I had gotten to the point where I was only running a front and so were loads of other racers. The trick riders always had super stout brakes on both ends but those guys were a totally different breed of rider, our paths rarely crossed. Those were some fabulous days and when you added in skateboarding (ramps, pools, and skate parks) and punk music… always seemed like good days, you had a reason to get out of bed other than your mother screamin’ at ‘ya… ha-ha!!!

Humm, so you guys were into them but does stand to reason being that is where it all start and we were still behind. I remember reading in one of the BMX mags about the benefits of running front ( and these days after riding MTB I understand ) plus the other thing that cracks me up is the tooth count. Back then we ran big rings and cog where these days the drop tooth count for more rpm than muscle the bike around the track, thing that gets me is back then one of the guys I ran with was a Co-factory for GT and towards the end of our bmx time he push us to try spinning- January 29, 2015 at 3:26 am
There were guys that were ahead of their time for sure, the first guy I saw on small rings was John Tomac, but it was specifically for a certain track in one of the national title events. Yet, when he won the Cross Country Mountain Biking National Title he was in a giant road/track ring on a dirt drop set up. Pure animal is my best answer! The equipment was one thing but nothing took the place of simply being a monster mashers… John Tomac, Eric Carter, Brian Lopes, and my buddy Mark Salmon all were BMX National Champs and every one of them could ride the tires off the bike! It carried right over too, Tomac, Carter, and Lopes all went on to be National Champs in mountain biking. My buddy Mark went on to snag national titles in cyclocross and single speed racing. It was always humbling when we would meet back up at is bike shop after taking off together in a group pack, I pulled my best time on a local loop at 39 minutes and I was feeling great! That is until I found out that Mark had done the same loop in 28 minutes with only one gear… a straight up 1×1 ass whooping!!! What was eye opening was when I found out that Mark heading back out for a second loop to collect any stragglers, I felt for those guys. You always knew that you were riding with someone special, struggling to keep your breath, turning over your best gear to keep pace, and you look over to see that he was in his big chainring and telling jokes… *pppfffttt…* deflated and done!!!- January 29, 2015 at 5:18 pm

Yeah, I agree but I don’t want to get all nostalgic for a certain time period. That said, there were so many great things happening in mountain bikes for the entire 90’s decade. Frame geometry and frame materials made drastic changes, from basically road bike geometry to sloping top tubes with steeper angles, 1 inch to 1 1/8th inch head tubes, threaded quill to threadless, and any frame material you wanted from steel, alloy, metal matrix, aluminum, bonded metals, titanium, and carbon fiber. We could spend an entire thread going over the evolution from rigid through full suspension but that horse has already run its race. For me though, it was the bike jewelry that really made it come alive… anodized CNC… incredibly beautiful parts in any color you could dream up. Showing up to your LBS to check out the newest colorful gems in the case, it brought back all the excitement I felt when anodized alloy BMX parts first hit the market. Color was king again! No doubt it was eye candy for sure but this time it came with the added improved performance over heavy cast components. That was it for me, brother, I was sold and started gobbling up anything I could afford. Even Uncle Sam helped out, I always took student loans for more than I needed just so I could stock up on the newest and greatest from PAUL, Ringle, Kooka, Nuke Proof, Hershey, etc., etc., etc.. Great times for sure!!!
