Well.. I haven’t been working on any bicycles lately, but have been working on my Yamaha RZ350. I am in the process of bracing the frame to support more horsepower. I have already installed FZR600 front end, wheels, brakes and FZ400 swingarm. I need to fabricate a mount for the FZR400 fairing and lower cowling. I have all the parts for this plus the engine rebuild, just gotta make the time. For those not in the know, the 1984 RZ350 is a 2 stroke twin. A big bore kit and stroked crank is available to up the displacement to 421cc’s. That, some big mikuni’s and a porting job will make this bike scream.

I’ve been trudging along with this project and thought I would post an update: I have been working on securing the mid fairing to the frame this past weekend. Had to fab some brackets and weld to the frame. Getting things level is the hardest part for me. I bought a really cool Craftsman laser level system at a garage sale and has really helped me out. I have 3 more sets of mounts to fab to complete this phase.- September 20, 2015 at 5:33 am
I have been working on finishing the fairing mid and lower brackets. Lots of fab, lots of fitting. But it is coming along. The first image is the front lower fairing frame stays made out of 1″x1″ steel tubing, then tack welded to the frame. The second is the mock up with the lower fairing. I drilled it and welded a 6mm nut and moved to the next bracket.- September 20, 2015 at 5:40 am
Next is the rear lower bracket. I built two stays from 3/4″ x 3/4″ square tube, welded a nut on the back and tack welded to the frame. I made a bracket similar to the factory FZR brackets by shaving off of the 1″x1″ square tube.- September 22, 2015 at 2:37 pm

Here is a cool TT build that pulled the same front end as yours, plenty of photos and good description of the build. Check it out: http://motorcyclephotooftheday.com/tag/thumper/

The last set of fairing brackets. It stabilizes the rear of the mid fairing to the frame top tube.- September 28, 2015 at 5:41 pm
The air box on an RZ incorporates the battery box. To eliminate the air box, I cut the battery box off of it. The battery box gets its front mount from the air box. With the air box gone, I built a bracket to stabilize the front of the battery box.- January 7, 2016 at 6:58 pm
I worked pretty hard over the Holidays to finish bracing the frame in preparation for the welder.
