I’ve mentioned this in my general restoration thread, but figured I’d break it out as a separate topic/question here. I recently picked up a Barracuda A2E frame and it came along with some components which I’m not sure are original to the bike or not – one of those is the seat-post. As you can see, it’s a somewhat unique 2-bolt setup but it’s missing one of the clamps so it’s currently useless. Just wondering if any of you have this same seat-post which might indicate it was original with the bike in ~’94.It seems rather unlikely I’ll find the missing part, but even a pic of the missing part would be a help so I could fabricate a new one. I realize this isn’t really an economically sensible project to take on, but since I have a mill and a lathe, I figured why not take on the challenge? 😈
Any leads or input appreciated…

This is the same post I have on my 94 Cuda Comp. See the pictures in the memberd bikes section. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=176I don’t really like this post but is original to the bike.

Thanks for the confirm and link. If you get a chance, do you think you might be able to take some close-up pics of the clamp portion of the seatpost? I think I can machine the part I need from some AL round bar stock, but it would be nice to see how it came from the factory.

With some help from the MTB Forums, it would appear that this is the part I need (or need to fabricate)….- March 16, 2012 at 12:05 am
If it were me, I would move on to a better post. A Thomson is much better. To me, the adjustability of the factory post is poor.- March 16, 2012 at 2:46 am

But that would be too easy! 😆

I will give you mine if you buy me a Thomson. It is in a lot better shape than yours..- March 17, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Digging up this old post as I’m finally getting around to building this into a usable bike. I was thinking I’d want to get a quick-release seatpost clamp, but now that I look at the design, it appears that the only option is to use a simple bolt and nut through the existing brazed-on stays – yes, no, maybe??? Anyone have any close-up pics of the original factory bolt?Might be just as well since the 30mm seatpost is a bit of a rarely-used oddball size. BTW, is 30mm the “official” size? The I.D. of the tube measures out at 29.9mm and the original post at 29.95mm

Cheap bikes use a simple bolt and nut, go to a bike shop or online and get a seat binder bolt..they really do not cost that much and you will be far more happy with the clean look. That being a part that has no need to be vintage I would hit up the bike shop first, more than likely they would want more on line .- July 18, 2013 at 8:04 pm

Yea, but this wasn’t a cheap bike when new!
Looks like a 1/4″ x 1.5″ bolt will do the trick. Stainless Allen head with a nylock nut is what I’ll aim for.

That was my point..use seat binder hardware. Just typing in seat binder bolt on ebay this came up with many more..the price on this one is 5.04 with free shipping. Would not surprise me to find it at a bike shop for less.- July 20, 2013 at 3:39 am

Ah, missed the point! Next visit to the LBS I’ll see what they have. In the mean time, nut & bolt will suffice.
