Great looking ride, I considered setting up my a2e as a SS.- September 23, 2011 at 5:06 am
Cool bike!I had my A2L set up as a single speed for some time and loved it (it was great as a 1×9 too)! I vowed I’d go back to single speed after I built up a new rear wheel with a White Industries ENO hub. I was never totally satisfied with the chain tension. I was hoping for the “magic gearing” set up because I don’t care for chain tensioners, I got really close but the ENO would have solved it. I’ll pick one up soon because I miss the minimal quality of a single speed!
Hey Sammac, what brake levers are you running on that v-brake in the rear? Is it a “REAL” CNC lever? Also, is the a mechanical or hydra disc brake up front? Nice choice on the cranks too!

I’ve got the ENO Eccentric hub on the rear and I’ve yet to have it loosen up on me. I even hook up my kids bike trailer to it and it holds strong. The cranks are original to the bike, Topline something. I’m actually too heavy for their weight rating now, compaired to when I was 24, but they still work nice…no flex. My rear V-brake is also original, or at least so old I can’t remember when I bought it: It’s a XT with the XT Lever up front. The front brake is a Juicy Ultimate, hydraulic obviously. The only reason I put that on the bike is because I run those on my Pivot 429 and I wanted to keep the feeling the same. The fork is a Reba U-Turn which I never “turn.” I’m dumping it next summer for a Fox…just rebuilt the Reba and it runs smooth but not like a Fox. Carbon bars, Lizard Skins Lock Ons, Ritchey Stem 100mm, Seatpost?, Cheep headset, 17 year old BB, Speedplay Frogs (New ones, but I still have my originals), WTB Silverado Seat, DT Swiss 1800 in Front, DT Swiss 425 (?) Rear, White Industries ENO Eccentric Hub, Kenda Nevgal and Small Block 8, Salsa 34T Chainring, White Industries DOS ENO 17-19 Freewheel. I also have another WI 22T Freewheel.

Was this a special edition A2X in 94? I don’t see it in the catalog..- September 26, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Finally…some higher res photos. If you are riding/building/restoring one of these my advice would be to upgrade everything, forget the originally specified stuff. I’ve ridden it with ’90’s hardware and the current crop and the frame comes alive with modern hardware. For example, my latest upgrade was the Chris King headset…it eliminated all the slop in the front end. Nice and tight now. In case you’re wondering. I purchased this frame while riding on the inaugural Fort Lewis Bike Team circa ’94. It was offered to us at a team special price. Everything is original with respects to the frame…no new decals etc. What you see is the way I received it. I do think I removed those decals which wrap around the frame at the white/green junction (maybe, that was a long time ago). FYI, the only original parts remaining are the cranks, BB and the seat post; they will all be upgraded soon along with a nicer stem. Note: this was a custom build by me (both in ’94 and ’14) so you will see none of the Barracuda specified hardware.
