I’m in the process of repurposing my Earth Day bike (aka “RASKAL” from a pair repurposed GT “Zaskar” decals) from last year, getting it ready for this year’s Earth Day. I’ve decided to go with a 1×9 drivetrain and build it up as a 69’er (26″ wheel in the rear with a 29″ wheel in the front). I recently picked up a 700c/29’er fillet brazed Supercrown fork made by Rick Hunter from Hunter Cycles… it’s without a doubt the sweetest bike component I’ve ever owned (plus I only paid a fraction of the $450 cost of a new one)!!! Rick is a super cool guy, a one man operation, that builds custom one-off bikes to your specific needs. So, I want to run the Supercrown with a disc brake on the front of my RASKAL with a 1×9 drivetrain. Has anyone run or is currently running the 1×9 setup on one of your bikes? Please let me know what you think, I’d like to know the good and bad. Any pictures would be cool too. Thanks! Here is a link to Rick Hunter’s site, slick eye candy for sure!

Here is a great write up on a 1×9 conversion I found, cool reading w/pics:

Dude they need lovin too, and they’re grateful. 💡And pork is the new white meat. With gravy.
I like them curvy, but no, over the limit, well, two out of three. And I don’t say no very often.

The Texas Chef said, “And pork is the new white meat. With gravy.”😆
Thanks brother, that’s awesome, I had a good long laugh after reading that because it reminded me about how George Carlin joked about never trusting a gravy that was made by a man… a man’s gravy! Then my twisted mind went right into the Beastie Boys lyric, “… if it’s gonna be kind of a party, I’m gonna stick my d*ck in the mash potatoes!”
By the way…
You said, “I like them curvy, but no, over the limit, well, two out of three. And I don’t say no very often.”
Please do me the favor of pointing out which two have too many curves to be fun and get your lovin’, I’ve got to know! The one in the middle has so many damn twists and curves, riding her would remind of turn 8A, the famous “Corkscrew”, at Laguna Seca raceway! Think of it as a military operation… Get out the drop cloths men and bring the flour… we’re goin’ in!!! 😮

You don’t ride them, you roll around in them. Damn I gotta get some plastic sheets. Or maybe a tarp would work. And I was talking about the one holding the camera. The one in the middle didn’t even make the preliminary judging.

@neo_pop_71 wrote:Oh okay, that’s a simple fix, just swap out it out for a new sealed bearing bottom bracket, like a Shimano UN-53 (or -54 or -55) with a 68/73 shell with widths up to 118… you can’t go wrong! Jenson USA sells them for $10.00 with a price match on any other site’s pricing but 10 bucks is pretty hard to beat! Here’s a link:
I promise this is the last thread I’ll dredge up.
The link above still works but the only listed shell sizes are 73mm (no 68 listed). Just wondering if that’s all they have left, or is it really a “68/73” and will work fine on my ’94 A2E.- August 28, 2013 at 11:45 pm
It should work fine for your ’94 Cuda. I like to think of it as 68mm B.B. shells were common on ’80’s bikes and 73mm was ’90’s thing. You always have some overlap and that was the case with early ’90’s bikes. Many times now they give you the same size sealed bottom bracket but include a couple plastic spacer rings to take up the 5mm difference in shell width.
