My bottom bracket on my A2R was going, and I lucked in on this A2MS, with a good BB. 8-)

I have an old Avanti Ridge Rider to get me through till I get done with this one. The A2R is donating most of the parts, hence the budget build. Cleaned out the garage and fashioned some hangers to make the build a little more comfy.

GAAAAAHHHHHHH why is my chain skipping?

Use that special tool to index the drop-out. The drop-out’s get out of wack when you breath on it. If it is still skipping after everything is adjusted correctly, check all the links on the chain, making sure you don’t have a stiff link. The stiff link thing happened to me on my recent A2R build. Here is an image of the Park tool I have. $60.00

Thinking that’s what it is…. brand new chain but that don’t mean it’s perfect.

I make it a point after installing a new chain to clean that heavy grease off the chain that comes from the factory. Being that KMC makes 90% of all chains in China, you have to know that mass produced garbage they put on a chain to prevent rust is no good. I clean that mess and then I install some Dumond chain lube, they have different lubes for road or dirt. Just doing this simple bit of maintenance has solved the exact problem you’ve described. A number of factory bike teams plus motorcycle race teams like Ducati and Aprilia trust Dumond for their factory riders. It’s not too bad, $10 or $11 dollars online or a few dollars more at your LBS or motorcycle dealer. Here is a link to their bike products, they also have a dealer locator on their home page

Another thing to consider, ruling out your new chain, are worn teeth on your derailleur pulleys, chainrings, or cassette. A new crisp chain will jump around on rounded over or worn out drive teeth. The chain is the best place to start as it’s the most affordable replacement.

    Good luck!

When I joined the NEW chain together on my A2R with that special joining tool, I neglected to free up the joined links. Which was what my issue was. My sprocket cassette was brand new.

Well here is my first urban assault…. I have a crude video shot with my phone but can’t figure out how to post it. I am definitely going to mount some knobbies soon.

Thanks to all for all your help. Special shout out goes to Don! Chain skips a little in 7th only now…. still tinkering with it.

Well glad to see you got a ride in …Tires and other things can be done later, enjoy the fact that you can throw a leg over something that was parts on the floor and go for a spin.

    Jesus Christ!

Man, are you 6’6″ or something taller? Your frame has to be an 18″ or 20″ and then that seatpost on top of that… crazy gigantic Cudahead!!! Seriously though, is your seatpost pulled up past the maximum line? I’ve never seen a post that long that was not beyond the line of safety. All joking aside, I don’t want to see you hospitalized, brother!!!

On a different note… great to see it done! It looks like it will be an awesome climber, especially if you’re truly that tall, your pedal leverage while climbing will be insane (think Ned “Deadly Nedly” Overend, also ran an 18″ or 20″ frame with a giant seatpost)! Glad I could help, happy to do so, and I’ll keep my eyes open for a good deal on a suspension fork (with an extra long steer tube).

    Well done!!!

The vintage sideburns add to the look indeed…Must say I kinda got a laugh the first look at his setup and thought the same thing about his height, but seeing that I could I no doubt run around his leg like a toddler I will keep my mouth shut.
By the way that was not laughing like you were a clown it was more of O MY GOD how big is this guy!!!
Then again we should have known with the call sign Pee Wee..Guys named Tiny or Pee Wee most of the time are big men.
I bet this is how it would look with me standing next to Pee 30 Wee and I would be saying the Stem the Stem….

    😆

Vinny, that is some funny sh*t!!! Very good, my man, thank you for that one!

This is my all time favorite photo of Herve aka “Tattoo”… it best illustrates the mean, angry, foul-mouthed, drunk, little man that he was in real life!!! Eyeballin’ a fire plug for gettin’ in his way! Sayin’ who’s the MACK?!!!

Ha. I am 6’4″ with a 34″+ inseam, and those face chops have multiplied last coupla weeks. I like to change things up with the facial hair. Narcissistic effect I guess. Will go silky smooth here in a bit, but the chicks are diggin the burns. I died them platinum blond for halloween and sprayed them bright red (Groundskeeper Willie from the Simpsons).

Ate it big on one of those stupid fake wood trail things on my fave trail with my skinny Specialized Armadillo tires [ROAD RASH]. Buuuuuttttt…. installed some Maxxis (front) and Intense 909 (rear). Questioning my judgement with the rolling resistance. 2.35 is a bit much for urban assault. But it is certainly confidence inspiring.

    See if this works. :)

Yea I checked it out….you said you did that with your phone, bet that was fun. I did one with my contour and need to see if I can post it,but I might add to it with some shots of me by hanging it along the path as I ride by and adding in where needed. All new to me playing with the thing so not sure yet.
Anyways BIG MAN glad you got a ride in and post the video, and with the tires I run semi slicks which on the limestone in most of the old overgrown quarries that we have here they hook up great plus when I ride around home they are fast as well but if you ride on wet loose stuff you might not like them because they would be all over the place and put your backside on the ground.

Right on man… you got a long way to go to snag the lambchop crown from Bob “Bobke” Roll…

Nice work on the video, let’s see more! Really glad you’re rollin’ and hittin’ the trails!
