Hey gang-Well, I need another bike like I need a whole in the head… however, check out what two Mr. Lincolns will buy. I bought the cruiser for the Cycle Designs rear rack and matching C.D. wire front basket, I figured they were well worth the $10.00 asking price. Plus, I’d get the old beat up cruiser for free! The bike was complete and the tubes/tires were still holding air. I always wanted to build a Board Track Racer style cruiser, not a fancy one but more of a rat rod style. Being it’s presents from Santa time, I knew this had to be the cheapest build ever, otherwise I’d be sharing the dog house again!
I wanted to go Rat Fink green and matte black but since the budgie was so tight I went with the Yamaha Yellow because I have 5 cans that my buddy gave me. I knew the stock straight seatpost wasn’t going to work, so I picked up a $5.00 lay back post from the BMX shop. I took some “body shop” cloth to the gloss black frame, don’t freak as it has bad scratches all over, now I have the desired matte finish. The next step was to prep and paint the terribly faded gold anodized bars, a few thin coats of YamaYellow and I’m good to go. I was starting in on the rust bucket rims when the rain hit and chased me inside. I’ll be taking my Dremel and a 120 grit sand wheel to the rims and then the hoops will get a few coats of YamaYellow to match the bars. I’m not bothering with the rusted spokes or the oxidized hubs… c’mon, it’s a rat rod, can’t be too nice! So, I’m $15.00 and a few hours into the build and I’m really diggin’ it, I can’t wait to spray the rims and slap the wide whites back on and take it for a spin! I’ll update later with some finish pics…

PBR… it’s hard to escape it… between the track bike street races around Los Angeles, cyclocross (and singlecross) races, and the single speed mountain scene, I’ve come to accept that PBR and bikes are probably always going to be partnered. Personally I go for the micro stuff with much more flavor but the ‘ol red, white, and blue of Pabst seems to always be around.- December 17, 2012 at 12:52 am

Wish I could… as a Merry (f*cking) Christmas present, some thieving bastard came up my driveway, opened my gate, and came into my yard and stole my Board Tracker! Get this… with a flat rear tire, the front wheel off, and the tire off the front… the piece of sh*t took it all! Literally walked off, not rode, with it in pieces! Granted I’m only out $15.00 but that jerk got my favorite old seat, my ’76 Brooks that was all soft and broken in! Damn, I hate people!!!

Sorry to hear the Grinch showed up to ruin your fun…bright side for them to take a bike that was being built and not a full ride…maybe and I know it is a low chance but it might have been somebody that had nothing and wanted to give something so bad….NAH…it was some ass!- December 27, 2012 at 8:51 pm
Have you been on the look out or hear anything about the bike? That bike should stick out unless it is the going thing around you…guess you need to make the Meth heads start talking about how you deal with bike thiefs again….couple of lumps might go along way 😈- December 27, 2012 at 10:37 pm
Facking lame sauce. I had a 90’s Trek Single Track snatched in exactly 10 seconds, parked-walked in the store, remembered I shoulda locked it up, turned around to go back outside, and it was gone. Kind of a blessing, tho, that’s how I picked up my A2R!- December 27, 2012 at 11:39 pm
I had to show my Son your post Derek because I get on him when he walks away from his bike…just over the weekend he had his Trek on the front porch to go pee and I yelled “in that time the bike could be gone” some people just do not get how fast a bike can vanish and even if you see them you can not run them down if they start riding away..that is other than Don’s..that had to have been somebody watching him or knew he built bikes I feel.- December 28, 2012 at 5:46 pm
Yeah, I try to never leave the garage door open for very long, why invite trouble? As you can see in the pic, my A2L is locked to my wife’s Simonetti race bike with a thick 15 band braided uncuttable Krypto cable lock. I have 4 of these in my garage plus a few other u-locks to help deter thieves but I know they’ll get ’em if they want them bad enough… sucks!
