What’s crazy about the seatpost situation on my 93 A2R is a good 5 inches deep into the seat pipe measures an inside diameter of 26.64mm. But the seatpost in the frame is a 26.2mm. This is clearly why I am having clamping issues with this bike. So my debate is whether to go with a 26.6mm seatpost or ream out for a 26.8mm. I have the ream but a .2mm ream out of chrome moly could be tough. I am looking at Thomson or Origin8 for a seatpost. What you guys think about this dilemma?

Thomson 26.6 ….there is no better. But have you tried a seatpost shim with what you have or have I miss understood what you are saying?

I would rather just replace the crappy stock one than to use a spacer.

+1 I agree with you Mix… given the frame save you pulled on your Dos Equis Team, this one will be easy for you. Then reward yourself for all the effort with a Thomson post.

    Good luck!

    p.s. Pics please, thanks!

I did a comparison with my Cuda Comp today. It also measures 26.64mm deep into the seat tube and uses a 26.4mm seat post. It looks like a 26.6mm Thomson is just what I need for upgrade.

I finally got around to replacing the seat post on the A2R. I found a used Thomson 26.6mm on the cheap, reamed and honed out the seat tube, and crammed the Thomson down in there. Works great..

GREAT CHOICE…Thompson post and stems are true works of art that can be used for fun!

Is it just me or does it appear that this frame might be too small for you?

I dunno. Considering the length of the top tube on a Barracuda 14″, it works for me. I’m 5’6.5″. with a 29″ inseam. 115mm stem. I tried a 16″ Barracuda. Seemed too long.

Was waiting for the reply in hope you would say your height and inseam being that I ride a 14 as well. We are the exact same plus you gave me the answer I have wonder about for sometime now. When I built my Cuda the owner of the bike shop told me not to use more than a 110 mm stem and to tell the truth I have always felt it would be nice just to have a little bit more room. Love my Race Face stem but when I built the thing I wanted a Thomson to match up with the post but they still had not hit the market yet even though they were shown in the mags. So thanks Mix for the insight and when I sell one of the kids…ooops I mean ever come into money I owe a fellow bike lover some funds then a Thomson I will go!

My A2M has a 110mm stem. Works fine.

Oh I ride and love being on it but as said, have always felt the need to stretch out just a bit more ! Do you use straight bars or bars with a little back rake to them?

All my Barracuda’s have the factory bars and are slightly swept back.
