Okay this was posted on craigslist back in June, but the listing is still active, I wanted your opinion on this is it a true xx team as the color is not the usual you see or is it another model with xx team stickers?

This is a beautiful mountain bike in very good working condition. I just had it tuned up as well so it’s running wonderfully. This bike is a 19″ 1995 dos equis xx team tree amigos with all original shimano components. These have become pretty rare bikes and have quite the fan base. This bike is a fake and is probably a scam. It is an A2B with a XX Dos Equis stickers. The frame in the picture is a steel frame, yet the description says it is aluminum. Real XX Teams are 7005 series aluminum. Not one of the items in the description are on this bike. I wouldn’t even consider buying this bike. :ugeek:

I cannot believe it the the guy has relisted and altered the listing and put the price up check it out, I think he must be checking this forum as he has now removed all the spec of the bike which did not match what he is try to pass off as a genuine Dos Equis 😡

I still have the add through my history, copied it below, it was worth a shot whoever is our Cudasheriff

The bike he is listing is constructed of steel. Compare the rear of his bike with a real XX, you can see the “hefty” frame tubes connecting at the rear axle. Also, all XX Dos Equis Barracudas are gold. The full picture is of an actual 95 XX Dos Equis Barracuda. Don’t be fooled by imitations.

I once ran across a team frame that was painted up red, but it was a one-off frame and I believe listed in a mag way back when.

Yeah, as said already, the tell for me was the steel frame; you can tell by how small (diameter) the rear triangle tubes are. The headset is also another giveaway. The rest falls into place. But seriously, who’s going to pay that price for an XXTeam anyhow?

That’s right. Don’t be Manbeer’ing the CudaHeads with your cheaply upgraded Barracuda bicycle, Johnny. It takes more than a decal to make a Dos Equis team bike. Your bike was a basic $300 Barracuda when it was new and worth about $125 now. Someone may have stuck that decal on it and ripped you off, but it does not give you the right to rip the next guy off. I know you are seeing these posts, so you might as well update your ad with the correct info and get real..
