One of the most common questions we receive is “Was my Barracuda built at Yeti?”.

To answer, a little history is required..

Barracuda took the original 4 prototypes they received from legend Tom Teesdale of TET Cycles to their friend and mentor John Parker, founder of Yeti.  Also at Yeti at that time were pioneers Chris Herting and Frank “the welder” Wadelton.  These craftsmen were given freedom to tweak the initial designs and fabricate the first bicycles to launch in 1993 – the A2T and the A2X.  These frames were selected to be built first, due to their stature on the top tier of the line, both to attract sales and to bank enough capital to later invest in production of the remaining bikes of the 1993 lineup.

Also being fabricated at Yeti, were the frames the race team would be using to garner trophies and acclaim throughout the 1993 season and beyond.  These same frames would be sold commercially as the “Easton” and would be available through 1994.

Below, are the only models ever produced at Yeti.

How to tell these apart from the other bikes?

  1. These bikes were made well before the Tree Amigos partnership existed.  You won’t find a Tree Amigos decal on one of these frames.
  2. Pay close attention to the frame colors.  The A2X is white with a “team green” rear triangle.  The A2T is white with a teal rear triangle.
  3. The Yeti frames had 4-digit serial numbers prefixed with the letter B stamped into the non-drive-side rear dropout.  There would be no serial on the bb shell.

Think you may have spotted a Yeti-built frame?  Come on over to the Facebook discussion group!  We’d be more than happy to help identify it.
