Cool aftermarket products

Post by neo_pop_71 »

Hello gang-
I'd like to post about an aftermarket product... for me an aftermarket product should be more than simply lighter than a stock part, it should have a better design or whatever as long as it's something more than weight (and possibly aesthetics). I'd like to share the Salsa SHAFT, my favorite seat post hands down and without question! What sets this post apart from other posts is the clamp/tilt mechanism. First the clamp, straight forward and nicely machined, a single allen head bolt sets the clamp on the seat rails. Nothing special in that except the seat rail clamp is separate from the mechanism that controls the tilt of the saddle. The tilt mechanism is controlled by a locking eccentric and a second safety lock bolt. Given the angle uses an eccentric instead of notches, you'll get the perfect seat angle and not be caught deciding between notches. Plus, not having to loosen your seat and lose the seat position (forward and back), just to adjust the tilt is a huge benefit.
Installation: clamp the seat rails securely in place, next insert the post into the seat tube, now adjust the angle/tilt of the nose of the saddle, and the last thing to do is tighten the eccentric bolt (locking the angle) and the safety bolt (locking the mechanism). You're done! That's it... a secure saddle with the perfect angle!
Please feel free to comment or ask question... do you have a great aftermarket product that you'd like to share with the group... let's see it!

Hey Mix,

You're right, the Salsa Shaft seat posts are nice... very nice! I should mention, the current Salsa Shaft is a (dull) matte black finish, and I am no fan of the new finish. In contrast to the new version, the "early" or "original" finish was a high polish silver (as pictured) or high polish black and both came with a gunmetal gray clamp mechanism. Functionally they are alike... my distinction is purely for aesthetics.
