Projekt Easton.
Projekt Easton.
serial number... 3 95 177.
has some mavic ub control rims (i think)
rock shox judy xc (springs are shot)..might just put my manitou 2's on there
all other parts seem unsalvageable (looks like it was kept out in the salt water wind)
will post pics after I get the shocks/bottom bracket off
Looks like it was piecemealed together, so most stuff is going in the garbage, i.e. bottom bracket, shocks, cranks (think they're a crappy brand...Sugino Impels)
Hubs were deore xt's, so keeping those, velo/barracuda seat (might be keeping, tear in the front of it)
Just need to find a ringle stem, crank, and seatpost and i'll be set
Nukeproof or Easton will probably be the handlebars.
Wondering what a good headset would be for this.
Nukeproof or shimano will be the bottom bracket.
How's that wish list looking so far?

Pics
Here ya go for some pics. Like the paint, but looks really cheap (flaking off in LOTS of parts, as in if you bump it in the wrong spot), so i think a paintjob will have to be in order on this one unless i want an aluminum colored bike.
Also, any of you photoshop gurus out there can make me a easton toptube decal pdf?

Re: Projekt Easton.
I taped off my decals on my XX when I painted it with great luck. Check out my restoration on this site.

Re: Projekt Easton.
I will be sure to keep everyone posted... I think it'll just take some time to source all the parts...I'm thinking of going old school xtr setup with old ringle bits and either the mavic rims that came with it or anodized ones if I can find a good deal on some.
I was looking at the joystix cranks but people were posting that theyre garbage and crack easily, so either the xtr or some cook bros. if all else fails I can just run my full deore lx set thats on my 93 stumpy. and need to get the easton top tube decal sourced and made. think there should be a tree amigos on there as well?

Re: Projekt Easton.
...and after close examination, i might just have to sandblast the frame to check for hidden cracks in the frame. i noticed that there was slight bulging about 3/4 of the way down the downtube, and lots of cracks in the paint, i just want to make sure that there's NO cracks before i start dumping ludicrous ammounts of money into projekt easton. it will be in the same exact colors (or as close to original i can get), and then just reinstall the metal easton sticker and put the new decals on.
boo.
boo.
Re: Projekt Easton.
The paint they used on the Barracuda's was so cheap that any paint remover will remove the paint. I used that orange environmentally safe paint remover to check for cracks on my XX.

Re: Projekt Easton.
here's a few other pics of stuff that i've halfway restored to put on the bike. also has a aheadset that came with, but looks pretty beat up and still on the crap shocks. thinking of going just the xt set and eventually an xtr set, prices are just waaaaay too insane for nos xtr stuff, or even slightly used.

Re: Projekt Easton.
I wouldn't worry about NOS XTR, since the frame itself isn't NOS either.
And the trick to finding good XTR stuff is to not "search" for XTR. Search instead for high-end period bikes, and they'll come with high end XTR. Often, you'll find someone selling an old bike and doesn't know the value of it as a whole, or the sum of the parts.

Re: Projekt Easton.
so just picked up parts 1 and 2 today...xtr front and rear derailleurs. fd-m901 front and rd-m910 for the rear. the front der. was missing a couple of screws, but after a trip to the lbs, the mech there gave me the screws needed. woot!
as for the rear, got a good deal on it, because the bottom pulley is cracked all the way through. anyone know of any replacement parts for this? i tried googling xtr 910 pulleys, and came up with zip for shimano parts. the guy at the bike shop said bullseye ones, but they're from the 80's i think...i had a road bike that had titanium carmichaels on them, and they seemed to work good. any suggestions? top pulley is mint, bottom one just needs replacing.
will post pics tomorrow when i get the front all cleaned up.
*edit*
anyone know if this is just a generic stem or...
only writing i could find on it is between the 2 holes 9501 on the left side, 23 on the right
