Project: 93 A2R

I guess my next project is some sort of restoration of the 93 A2R I purchased off of Austin's Craigslist last Summer for $45. (Thanks to Neo-Pop for the find) It will be a good 2012 Project.

I tore down the A2R today. After I originally purchased the bike, I had sprayed the inside of the frame with WD40 fearing rust on the inside. While pulling the bottom bracket, the WD came pouring out, looking all rusty. So, I went to the local Home Depot and purchased some penetrating oil. I taped up some of the breather holes in the frame with E-tape and began filling up the tubes with the penetrating oil. After rotating the frame in all directions, I drained the excess and let drain overnight on its side.

Ditto on the PBB, that stuff will unstick bolts like nothing else I have ever tried. A diesel machine shop I worked in during high school kept cases of the stuff around and the mechanics refused to use anything else.

I had loaded up my Cuda Comp with XT hardware and am installing the LX hardware from the Comp on to the A2R. I worked on the rear of the bike today with LX brakes and rear derailleur. I had an extra XT crank, so it goes on the A2R.

I scored some Manitou 3 parts off ebay last week to repair the M3 fork that originally came on my CudaComp. (See the big dent on the lower leg.) This fork will go on the A2R.
