Came across this thread while searching for info about seatposts. While your 29.93mm measurement sounds correct, I'm not so sure about your "rounding" to 29.4. I just cleaned my seatpost and revealed a stamping of 30.0mm along with a date of October 1993.
Hmmm... 0.06mm is a big stretch when you consider that seat post come in 0.01 increments I have since bought two other 29.4 seat posts for my A2L, that is definitely the correct size. I had a 30.0 Thomson that I hoped would fit but there was no way without ham fisting the thing in and ruining the frame.
